CSA 7.62 Magwell adapters?

Hey guys, I just emailed CSA about whether they had planned on creating a 7.62 version of their magwell adapters and I wanted to know if anyone has heard anything from them? I am aware of the B&T adapter and I am not interested due to: price, milling, chunky look and lack of bolt hold open.

So, I wanted to know if anyone has heard of an developments from CSA in either plastic, steel or aluminum construction, or if some other company had planned to release a magwell adapter for 7.62. I hope they have something in mind, as I don't want a .223 version of the CSA.

Dear Sir,​

It is possible to use our 5.56 mm mag well adapter also in 7.62 x 39 mm Sa vz. 58 Sporter Rifles, but feed lugs protruding into the mag well have to be cut off. However, early CSA 7.62 rifles also need slight mag well modification. Only the 7.62 rifles produced since fall 2011 are “mag well adapter ready”.​

Most importantly, please note, that CSA mag well adapter was designed for CSA Sa vz. 58 Sporter rifles, not for CZ858´s military surplus receivers, so we absolutely can not guarantee functioning of our CSA mag well adapters in CZ firearms.​

Wow, I am impressed with the speed of their reply. Has anyone attempted this? Also, I will need to find out what year my CSA was produced. Does anyone happen to know manufacturing dates related to serial numbers?

I would consider buying the mag well adapter if I had any idea of what this meant (I'm new to all of this stuff):

It would be worth a shot. I used all of my google powers and could not find any other info or instance where someone has done this yet...
 
I replied to the email and asked for the writer to elaborate, so as soon as I get a response I will post it. I am a little surprised more people haven't jumped at this, as the majority of people want larger mags and don't like the idea of the B&T magwell.
 
Well, my excitement was short lived. Looks like us 7.62 shooters won't be getting any new options. CSA would probably need a bigger demand to bring a product like this to the market.

Mr. Rušák forwarded your e-mail to me to assist with answering your questions. Mr. Rušák is not as technical as I am. In addition, I assisted in the development and testing of the AR-15 mag well adapter. Also, English is my first language so I can be a little more accurate in answering your questions.



At this time, CSA does not plan on producing a 7.62x39 AR-15 mag well adapter. Maybe this will change in the future? Maybe it will not? But, at this time, CSA has no plans for producing a 7.62x39 adapter. Reason: CSA remains extremely busy with manufacturing and working on other projects.



The AR-15 mag well adapter has two lugs on the top of the mag well adapter (closest to muzzle end of rifle when inserted into the magazine well). These lugs make contact with the top of an inserted AR-15 magazine (on the top left and top right side of the magazine). Without these two lugs, 5.56/.223 cartridges will not feed correctly into the chamber. Basically, these lugs help to center the cartridge for chambering. If these lugs are removed, the adapter becomes unusable in the 5.56/.223 rifle. In other words, the removal of these lugs forever destroys the proper functioning of the AR-15 mag well adapter with 5.56/.223 rifles.



CSA made some preliminary tests in 7.62x39 rifles using the AR-15 mag well adapter (with the two lugs removed). These tests showed promising results, but further testing must be performed to ensure that the 5.56/.223 adapter can be used for reliable function in 7.62x39 rifles. For this reason, I do not recommend trying to modify an adapter (and possibly you rifle’s magazine well). Even if your magazine well will accept the AR-15 mag well adapter, there is no assurance that you will not have to modify your magazine well further for reliable feeding. Again, CSA had promising results with preliminary testing, but the testing was not extensive. For this reason, we cannot recommend or offer support of any modification(s).

I just said the hell with it and got an xcr with the 7.62x39 and 233 barrels with the 10 round mags in each caliber with one single optic for both its kind of economical and non restricted

Ya, if only the price of an XCR wasn't ridiculous. Sadly, my budget does not allow it. Otherwise I would have a 7.62, a .308 and .223 barrel for my XCR.

Sorry for the wait. Here's a pic with the Dlask xb2, with and without the adaptor.

No mods were done to the receiver, other than swapping the mag release. Apparently, the new Vz58s don't require machining. My guess is you can tell the new style by the lack of a bayonet lug. The adaptor feeds great, but the bolt hold open doesn't work. The xcr mags drop free, and the button to release is big, and on the right side of the adaptor, accessable with your trigger finger. The nice thing, is the factory mag is easily popped back in, though fast mag changes are not possible, and still can be stripper clip fed.

The XB2 is awesome looking IMO, and I chose it for it's ability to shift the god-awful noise of the beast downrange, rather than sharing it with your fellow range users. I have yet to fire it with the XB2, but will try with and without, to compare.

I haven't fired enough to see any issues, but I'm not too worried. If wood doesn't catch on fire, I don't see the optic failing. I love the look of the XB2, it's hideous! lol. The internal design is cool, but the exterior is all business. It reminds me of a glock, or an unfriendly 250 lb austrian security contractor with a brocken nose; you will probably take it seriously.
 
Just a bump and a heads up that zahal.org has stock on these magwell adapters again. I ordered one for my vz58 carbine and will post a review when I get it and some XCR mags to test with.
