10/22 Triggers

Thanks dant! Some people are very "one track minded" and very opinionated on this forum! Ive seen it countless times, im sorry this thread has taken the direction it has. But, I hope you get all the business you need, it would be nice to see a canadian offering this service :) good luck.

Thanks TargetGuy, i appreciate the support....

I'm sure they do great work, but I'd say it's a shame that guys are shipping 10/22 trigger groups to the US just to have them tuned and the pull lightened... 1 month turn around is an awful long time, considering how much work is involved...

Sounds like a "dis" to me...

First of all, i was not "dissing" his turn around time or questioning his integrity or his abilities, which is exactly what you are implying in your response... i made that post because i have read countless threads on this subject and wanted to give the community some food for thought since there seems to be an awful lot of folks shipping TGs across the border and no one in canada offering this service... as far as My work goes, it speaks for itself, there are dozens (not hundreds)of 10/22s and SR22s out there that have my TG work done to them, with nothing but positive feedback, i do not have a web page and i am not a full time gunsmith, i am a journeyman mechanic and have been for 10 years, so i have a day job but i am educated in the firearms field, have worked on firearms of all types, including 10/22s and 10/22TG work for 4-5 years and i do know what im doing, despite being canadian, lol,maybe i am not as established as some but we all have to start somewhere.. now you are the one who is questioning My integrity and putting me on the spot, I'm sure David at Brimstone doesnt mind another gunsmith trying to get some local business, im sure he keeps quite busy with all the customers he has in the US and i am not even a blip on his radar, i can only hope one day i can be that successful, as far as my price goes, on the Brimstone website he clearly describes his work and the differences between my work and his are the RT parts he installs, which i could also do but costs would go up, and i dont beleive the improvements provided by removing all take up and overtravel are as noticeable as the rest of the trigger work, maybe in a precision rifle but not a 10/22, at that point its more about technique and not fancy parts, beleive me, in the end they are usually short barrelled rifles (refer to the pics you posted) and are chambered in 22lr! most people will never shoot them beyond 150 yards, just saying, so i dont really push the adjustable sear and trigger overtravel screws to most customers since they will never know the benefits, the hammer and sear tuning are similar as he does not replace parts he just knows how to tune them to the right fit unitl the correct trigger weight is acheived, i usually go 3-3.5 lbs because its a huge improvement over factory without being too low, not that i cannot bring the weight lower, thats just usually where i draw the line unless the customer requests lower... being in america i'm sure he pays alot less for those parts and they are a lot more readily available, also being more established and experienced with a full time shop he can charge less, period... i work out of my shop at home, on my spare time, by myself... would it make you happy if i charged less? what do you want me to say? none of my customers have ever complained.... i am going to stop now and apoligize to everyone, this is NOT why this thread was started so i dont need to sit here and defend myself to you... nor do i need to, or wish to, compare myself to a well established full time American gunsmith such as David, as i am still in the growth stage.... but i assure you i do not apprecate my credibility and skill questioned by someone who i dont even know, when they are trying to defend someone who i was Not attacking...i can only hope as many people take me up on my offer as possible so i can grow my business and get my name out there, that way the work will speak for itself and none of this "battle of the posts" BS will be required.....

Woah there Hoss!!! Holy over reaction... off the meds or something???

First of all, I gain nothing from my support or recommendation... can you say that... you are trying to drum up business by foisting yourself into a public thread for personal gain. I said that I hope you do get support and that they report back here... You "don't want your credibility or skill questioned," eh... well how the heck are you going to get business... you don't think that skill and credibility are questions in peoples minds when they shell out their hard earned money for a "service," one which you personally benefit from... give your head a shake... I asked you legitimate questions that anyone who is going to use your service is going to want to know... they were questions, I did not comment on your integrity... I was opening the door for you to further promote your service... You talk about positive testimonials about your work... where are they? After that nutzo rant... hell would have to freeze over before I ever did business with you... and I sure as heck will never recommend you, no matter how good your work is... you need some people skills if you are going to do this kind of business... now you may continue your shameless self-promotion...

Hard to argue it will take less time to cycle a trigger to the US than within Canada. There is kinda a non sequitur at the end to the extent that the real time in shop only a few days.

To change the topic, what is the legality of part time paid cassual gunsmithing in Canada? I thought that was a no no, without a license and a certificate.

Got the VQ drop in (TG2000???) in my SR22. Trigger is a lot lighter (~2.5#) and crisp, can do rapid fire with BC25 mags keeping MOA? groupings. Factory was so heavy wasn't fun to shoot.

I don't know you and have never seen your work... I like to keep my business in Canada whenever possible, so I hope some folks try out your work and report back... but don't "dis" David's turn around time... the guy is a super hard worker and does hundreds of trigger jobs every year... the Canadian special he does includes top RT parts and gets his special attention for $99... what exactly are you providing for $75??? David got my triggers down to 2 lbs with better break than my TG2000 groups... he is established and provides a quality trigger... perhaps you do too... how long have you been doing 10/22 TG's? How long have you been in business? How many 10/22 TG's have you done (approximately)? Do you provide guarantees on your work? Do you have a website? Just because you are Canadian doesn't mean you know what you are doing.

I have a dozen Que bolts and TG's from just about every manufacturer including Brimstone and I have done 3 or 4 dozen DIY jobs... I have no problem paying for a quality trigger or trigger job... sure you can do your own, but it takes time and can render your gun unsafe or even inoperable... glad you had some luck with yours, I have had good results with many of mine also... I also FU'd a couple... BUT, my best DIY was not as good as David's work... I wonder how many really good triggers you have compared yours to???

This pair have Que bolts and TG2000 groups;

My daughter's Pinky build has a Que bead blasted bolt and Brimstone's Canadian Special Tier 1 job, along with Gun Candy's top notch anodizing (Dale is a superb guy also; daletr on RFC);

The top two guns, what is something like that worth without the scope????? Whats the range and accuracy with such a short barrel? By looking at the pics, I`m guessing the barrels are much much shorter than a factory stock 10/22?

You are asking me to do something I try never to do... Add up the numbers... I prefer to live in the dark! ;-)
But I will give it a shot... Uhmmm... Hmmmm... I'm thinking.... OK... My best guess is $975 without the scope and rings... But you better add 10% for additional shipping and miscellaneous that I am not remembering off the cuff. As for how they shoot... Amazing! There was a break-in period, trying to find the right ammo and working out functioning bugs... The thing about a build, is the parts are all top notch, but come from different companies, so the tolerances are made to the tighest "best guess" they can make... Once everything goes together there can be some tuning required... After three or four range sessions we had them singing. I have shot 5 shot groups at 50 meters that measure 0.3"... And 25 shot (full mag groups) that measure 0.6" with Zero fliers outside of that... Basically shooting out the entire bull. We have only stretched them out to 100 yards a couple times, and were testing ammo at the time, not measuring groups, but my impression is that they did remarkably well. The money is in the "feel and handling" of these build's... Incredible... Like an extension of your body (old cliche)... And they are amazingly solid shooting offhand. Hope that helps.

Oh, P.S - those particular barrels are finished at 10.5" with the thread stem, 10" of .920 contour... Finished length with the 2" brake is 12".

rimfiresports.com for $199.95. They no longer ship outside of US.

Yeah... I got six TG2000's from Alan when he was still shipping here, and a lot of other stuff that we can't get... Bummer that the BATF and ITAR shut down exporting of a lot of great products... Alan was a great resource for Canadians for a long time.

Oh geez... We shot at least 20 different loads through them... I won't remember them all off the cuff but we tried CCI Subs, SV, Green Tag, Mini-Mag HP and solids, Velocitors, Blazers, Federal 511 and 711B, Wolf ME and MT, SK Standard and Plus, a bunch of Winny and odd Rem left-overs (mostly shot like crap) rand some Stingers, but as usual got "cow-pie" groups with them. We ended up tuning them for HV ammo, as it is hard to get perfect function with subs and HV out of the same gun (if you have a good chamber, a sloppy sporter chamber will cycle anything)... We already have the red/blue/pink range guns tuned for standard velocity loads. So eventually we settled on Mini-Mag solids and tuned for those... As I said they are shooting great now...

A little or should I say "a lot" out of my price range, but they sure are a nice looking speciman. I really really hate this new fad of tacticool crap, but these are very smart looking. Blue is my favorite color, but geesh...there is just something about that red and grey that turns my crank.

Is there anyone here that has that same stock, but with the factory ruger action/barrel. I`d like to see what it looks like.
What was the name/company of that stock???

Darcy... the stocks in question are Boyd's SS Evolution stocks... you can order factory direct for $99 US plus about $40 shipping... Boyd's make a nice product, and your factory barreled action should drop right in. I agree that the red (called Applejack) is nice... when I ordered those two in red and blue... I gave my son first pick... he went with the red immediately... it is a striking looking stock. Eventually I ordered an RVT in Applejack for my Savage HM2, because I liked the color so much... here is the link to Boyd's;

I can give a positive testimonial to Dan's work. I had my trigger group and action worked over by him this time last year. I had him do a full polish and work over of the receiver, bolt and trigger group. In review of the trigger work the pull weight was dropped to 3.5lbs from 6.5lbs and the break is significantly crisper. The auto bolt mod works great and I couldn't be happier with the function and feel of the trigger. The action cycles super smooth and the gun cycles ammo more smoothly and reliably than a stock 10-22. I have 3 buddies that have 10-22's and after they shot mine last summer they all sent theirs for the same work a couple of months ago. If anyone has any specific questions ask away as I have approximately 10 000-12 000 rounds through this gun with his work.
