Chinese 1972 manufacture.

And no, it most certainly is corrosive. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I was told by the firearms dealer this is Chinese Non-Corrosive Ammo, Could anyone Identify these markings correctly? Thank you for your time, and I hope I posted this in the correct place.

I got suckered into the 72 chinese, and for the first 400 or so round it was indeed non corrosive, then it was hit and miss, bundle by bundle, some were non, some were corrosive, and since the only way to tell is wait and see if your barrels and such rusts or pull the bullet and pop the primer, you have to treat it as all corrosive. Do not buy this stuff if you want non corrosive ammo

That's bizarre that C and NC are mixed together in the same sealed spam can.
Are the headstamps all the same? 31 over 72

The consensus is the Chinese didn't go to non corrosive primers until the mid to late 80s, possibly as late as the 90s. Anything 80s should be considered suspect, anything earlier is unquestionably corrosive.

Pretty much what AK said. You never can tell with the Chinese, but you can be pretty damn sure, and we're pretty damn sure that any 70's manufacture Chinese ammo in this caliber is going to be corrosive. Some dishonest retailers can say what they like, but don't take them at their word if they're trying to pass off 70's manufacture Chinese surplus 7.62x39 as non-corrosive - it won't be.

Chinese ammo is quite excellent, corrosive or not. Some of the best in this caliber that I have fired. An extra five minutes to neutralize salts is well worth the performance I've gotten from this stuff.

lol There was a post a ways back regarding this exact thing.
Dealers who "aren't aware that the ammo was corrosive so advertised it as non corrosive".

It's PRC (Peoples Republic of China), it is corrosive.

You have been warned Sir.

The "trustworthy" folks at Lever told me that the Chinese switched to non corrosive primers in 1971 and that the ammo that they sell as non corrosive has all been "extensively tested". I am thinking that doesn't pass the smell test.

This is a particularly agrivating issue. My non firearms savvy friends (or they just don't care) bought a case of this stuff and shot it in a weekend through 3 different sks, a cz 858 and one of those cz bolt guns (think it was a cz but I have no idea) long story short it was very corrosive and it took a 5lb mallet to get 2/4 pistons out, 1 gas port completely sealed with rust, bolt face in the bolt gun was mucked and some 3 ceased forward firing pins later they found out why I preach "anything that isn't reloadable is treated as corrosive" but of course I was on the hook to get the 4 red rifles back in working order ... So they probably didn't learn anything..

I personally have boycotted a few dealers because of this... 300 dollars for a crate of corrosive chinese ammo .. Give me a break

I too fell victim to the non corrosive Chinese. The local store charged a premium price because it was NC. Luckily I looked at a thread that stated it was very likely corrosive and always cleaned properly so I had no issues. It was all stamped 91 64 "1964"

Add me to the list of swindled buyers .. This is very aggravating, as I am not familiar with corrosive ammo. This was the first purchase of surplus that I have ever made ( always bought new production ) My own stupidity for trusting something that seemed too good to be true. But when a dealer clearly states NON-Corrosive, to an extend I would like to believe them..

Seeing as I have spent 5k+ in the last two months at this store, you can bet I will be on my way back in this evening with a few questions of my own...

They may have actually pulled a few rounds and popped the primers over some steel, but just by luck picked out a handful that were non corrosive, it was mixed all together.
