Leupold and Canadians!

Hello,

I own a Leupold VX-3 6x20x40 Long range 30 mm scope with bottle cap turrets. A few days ago I called Leupold US tech support . I was told that it was no problem to have the turrets changed to target style. The total cost would be 120$. Since i am from Canada, i needed to send my scope to the Canadian Leupold warranty depot for the job and that the price should be the same or very similar.

Prior to sending my scope, I called the Canadian Leupold warranty depot (Korth Group). I was told that they wanted 240$ for the same job. I'm insulted! Can someone tell me why we Canadians have to pay double the price for the same Leupold service?

If this is the case, then no more leupolds for me!!!! I'm a business man myself and firmly believe that what goes around comes around! Many times I could have taken clients for more money above and beyond a reasonable profit! I didn't, why ? Because I want satisfied loyal clients. If I was Leupold USA, I would reign in Korth Group for the sake of my sales!!

But you aren't Leupold USA, and apparently they are content with Korth Group's handling of Leupold products in Canada. I don't buy Leupolds either. They are good, but to me not worth the premium while I can get scopes that are good enough for less.

Have you called leupold and voiced your displeasure?? I did with the warranty issue. They didn't seem to give a sh!t. I now have some Nightforce and Sightron glass, but no more Leupolds for me. Before that conversation I had only Leupolds. Not anymore, never. Mark

Believe it or not the reason we have been gouged over the years concerning prices on virtually everything is because Canadians will pay it, and they know it.

You should see what happens to your Nightforce warranty when it isn't bought through the approved and price fixed dealership network. Or the dealer of just about anything that dares to advertise a price too far out of line with the "Suggestions". There's no angels in this business.

Why wouldn't you buy your Nightforce from an approved dealer? Last Nightforce I bought, there was a whopping $40 difference between here and the big optics dealers in the states.. Can't say the same for Leupold.

That's because they did a better job of fixing prices on both sides of the line. Two wrongs make a right?

Korth isn't the only game in town. Irunguns carries Leupold products. I am leaning towards buying a high end leupold (mark 6 or 8) this year and I was worried that if I had warranty issues that I would be screwed because I bought the optic from the Irungun (US). A quick message to Jason at Irunguns said they stand behind their products and if there was a problem they would help take care of it. Even adding $100 for ITAR controlled optics still put that optic at least $600 cheaper than buying it from a dealer here. So for what its worth contact Jason and see what he can do for you.

On a side note, if you really want to feel like your getting F*****! here, go to the larue tactical website and see how much you can buy optics including mounts for!

That's good in the short term, but what about all these grey market scopes in +10 years. Sure hope places like Irunguns or Prophet River are still operating and still willing/allowed to run these scopes back and forth to the USA for warranty. As much as I dislike Korth's price fixing I want no question of warranty in +10 years, luckily there's still some Korth approved vendors who have very sharp Leupold pencils.

Good point and definitely something to consider.

How about a little optimism?
Who's to say another repair facility won't pop up
north of the border?
Or are things that stringent and tight?
I have been under the impression(from things i've read and heard)that Korth has exclusive Leupold distribution and repair business in Canada.Would be nice though because competition benefits the consumer the most.

The whole Leupold/Korth thing isn't a one of a kind example. As Dogleg pointed out other optics manufactures have the same "approved distributor/warranty" thing happening. I believe Leupolds cost more here as well b/c Canada isn't a big market compared to the US...happens with vehicles, ATVs, rifles electronics etc....I still run leupolds and am happy with them.
