See alot of that...

I have seen plenty of over-scoped rifles through the years...Most often its too much scope for the hunting situation...

I did it. Had a 6.5 - 20x leupold on my .222. Needless to say it was awesome for targets but not for running coyotes. My gun now wears a 3-9x 40mm VXII. The next scope I will put on that gun will be a VX2 3-9x 50mm...

Those see-through rings work great for looking at the bottom of the bell, also looks like there might be contact with the rear sight, should have just removed it, lol.

But the guy at the gun counter said...

Don't blame the guy and the counter...
Way back many years ago in my retail gun years I had a guy buy an Browning A-bolt Stainless .... no sights
but insisted on See thru rings because thats what his buddys told him he needed, I could not get through to him in any way that with no sights the see thru were uselss.

I think the see through rings were used just because of the height required...it is mounted too far to the rear...

To me sold my good gun less the scope some years ago and now need something for the old lever so rather than buy another . This will do.
Looks some strange I have to say. :)

My shooting eye is -40 and 9X at a 100 yards some days can be a challenge.
Swap over and shoot left handed and roll back the ups.
Sometimes big X's is a must for some shooters.

See through rings, along with the Weaver tip off mounts, came on the market in the 1950's and 60's, when ordinary hunters used nothing but iron sights and were mighty leary of those new fangled, fragile looking glass things on their rifles. The only way a great many of them would have a scope on their rifle, was if there was an immediate back up to their iron sights.
Strangely, many of those steel Weaver K2.5 and K4 scopes that were mounted on those bases, are still in use and in fine shape!

About as useful as a rear wing on a front wheel drive car, seen too many of them too. My eyes ain't what they once were, but 24X on a 30-30, HHHMMMMMMMM...........................................

Looks like the poor fellow was just the victim of inexperience and went with what looked and sounded good. It's fairly easy for a young shooter to fall for the 'flasher and bigger is better' thing.
