If you look at the difference between the gen 2 and gen 3, you will see how gen3 works better on most firearms than gen2.

May i ask whats so great about 30 round mags pinned to 5 when you can by 10 round LAR mags everywhere?
Keep in mind, I have zero AR15/M4 experience and i'm expected to receive my first M4 (Core15) this week...but from what the reading i've tried to do online the past few days
- Magpuls construction and durability are bar-none it seems. Watched a video of a truck running one over a few times and it was still fully functional just scratched, while another brand was in wreck.
- Ergonomics appear to be another thing a lot of people like about them
- Cosmetics, while this all comes down to preference it seems people like this about them as well
Does that make them worth their current price? To some it does. Personally having never tried any mags before, I can't say i'm about to hunt these things down and throw a fortune at them. I don't exactly expect to be running my mags over with a truck, or throwing them at concrete walls, or wearing a ammo vest and crushing them by dropping to the ground. I ordered a few LAR mags with my rifle, while I like the look of metal 5/30 mags better - I'm thinking i'd prefer using the 10 round mags for now. Maybe that will change once I get past the learning curve of this, who knows.
I'm waiting for the market to over-saturate with these things. After the craziness dies down I can buy them for peanuts as noone will be buying them. (Like last time.)

I have a good rule of thumb for you; If the mag is more expensive than the net price of the ammo going in (based on a non-neutered), don't get it.

Still trying to understand why a mag pinned at 5 rounds is more in demand than a 10 round LAR ? Is it just cause they look better in the gun?? or is it that people are the WROL doomsday prepper type thinking they might have to unpin their pmags if armageddon comes?
