Who else thinks this is a worthwhile venture? At least for the Canadian market, where even a specifically semi-auto variant of the AK would be prohibited by name.

How hard could it be to re-tool for such a similar firearm as their ak-variant (type 56)?

I for one, would love to snap up a couple in the $400 neighborhood. I think it's do-able.

:)

cheap as in 'a piece of garbage' like a chicom gun?

or cheap as in "it is inexpensive enough?"

because I will take the one that is almost half price if the quality is there... but that's just me

well, its not doable, since no part of an AK is interchangeable with the VZ58, everything will have to be newly produced so the price will be higher than what we are paying now .

sorry I don't follow ...? the ex-works price?

See Curtton's post. The only reason we get the 858, CSA, etc. as cheap as we do is because many of the parts used to build the ones we get now were produced decades ago for the Czech military (i.e. surplus parts). Producing brand new guns (with every part newly manufactured), even if it were the Chinese who were making it, would cost more than what we're paying now for the Czech built guns.

I dont think the M305's were in Current Production when they first came here @$399 so how can it be said that they couldent do it for this gun?

I try not to buy anything from china. I don't support communism.
What did you type this on ?

He means that the current VZ and CZ are cheaper than it would be to get one made by Norinco. As Curtton has said cost of re-tooling and design would bring it to market at a higher price than what they're already offered at.

actually , you said it better than i did .

but the M305 were still made from surplus parts , just like the VZ58.

I had the understanding they reTooled for the M305 due to the old polytecs having issues, find it hard to beleive the current m305s are surplus parts

Yes, but weren't the receivers they use right now made in the early 90's, when the guns were still being produced for the American market? And I doubt they scrapped the tooling they used in the early 90's, so simply pressing that back into service most likely helped save costs as well. As far as I know, China doesn't have any tooling on hand for the VZ-58, which would increase production costs, affecting the final market price.

I wouldent take them long to tool up and the cost would be worth the amount of sales they could have for a 400 gun, look how well they did on all the other clones they have .................
