Going for PAL, confused about buying guns online in Canada.

Hi, I've registered for a PAL and RPAL course that concludes on march 4th, however I was wanting to purchase an SVT-40 and ammo deal before then. I have no idea how purchasing a gun online works, but I assume they ship it to a nearby store and I go and pick it up there? my questions are as follows, as I do not have my PAL yet:

Can I purchase the gun and request that the store hold it until I receive my PAL?

Can my friend with a PAL pick it up for me and transfer it to me at a later date, when I have my PAL? Would he have to purchase it himself and then later transfer to me?

Can anyone outline how a routine, legal purchase of an online firearm generally happens, from online purchase to in-your-home? Thank you!

If you abslutely MUST have it.... Get your friend to purchase the firearm. (and keep it at HIS house until you get your card). Then you purchase it from him when you've received your card. The lack of a registry has made things drastically easier, but you don't want to be caught in possesion of a firearm until your paperwork is completed. And remember, anything you do on the internet is essentially public, and there will be records of it. Happy shooting. :)

Most stores will hold a purchase for you then ship when your license arrives but that is up to the individual store.

A licences friend can of course take possession of it and store it for you, when your license arrives he can simply hand it over (if its non restricted) the registry is gone so its easy as that.

If you're applied for an rPAL as well you're in for a bit of a wait.

Usually Not.

The registry is gone no transfers on non restricted, your PAL holding friend can buy it for you and when you get your PAL hand it to you and that's it.

Call or fill out a web form which will usually ask for PAL info and some other personal info, If you have no issues with that, pay and place your order. they'll process it, ship it, and the mailman will deliver it.

"Restricted" firearms will require a transfer and re-registration and an ATT, but that's not what you're asking.

The purchase usually goes something like: you give them some money, your address and pal( sometimes a scan) and it shows up a few days later on your door step. If its restricted its pretty well the same except there is a transfer for the registry which can sometimes add an extra day.

Edit: got beat twice in a row! :D

If you have o order it in, the store might let you put your deposit on it, and order it without a PAL. That way the two are happening at the same time.

Not sure where you live, if you are just finishing your course on March 4th and have applied for Rpal then it will be most likely June/July when you will be able to have the firearm legally. Most provinces have a backlog right now and not looking any better any time soon. Don't worry though lots of time to read, i bought and MP9 last October and just shot it for the first time last weekend :)
Good luck to you

Wow, that long? I was just doing my rPAL in case I wanted to own a handgun in the future, though I have no plans whatsoever to do that now. I had read that people were getting their PAL in 28-54 days? I'm from British Columbia. If the wait is that significant I'm going to just do my PAL and submit my RPAL after.

I have a friend i've known for 7 years, I'll have him buy it and store it at his house until I am able possess it myself, (Doesn't mean the two of us can't go out and shoot it though)

Well this is my timeline for Ontario, i believe BC is 28 days or so for PAL and you can apply for an ATT before owning a firearm, some of the BC CGN would be better informed in this case.

In Ontario you need to own a firearm before you apply for att and before owning a firearm so its a huge assembly line and ALOT of waiting:) Well worth it though after firing your first magazine worth of ammo
