Cabin fever solution....detail your next dream hunting rifle build.....

I'm a man of simple tastes. A Mossberg MVP (because i like how it looks) rebarreled to .17 Remington (medium/heavy contour 1-10), Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15x40 scope, Versa-Pod 300 Raptor Pan/Tilt Bipod & Adapter. Here on PEI, you can hunt coyotes with a 22 centerfire or rimfire, or 17 centerfire or rimfire. If you call in a fox, too bad for you, because you can only use .22 rimfire or .17 cf or rf. That's why i would have it rebarreled.

Already completed. A custom 22" 6.5x55 Shillen sporter(No 3) barrel. Rem 700 long action, in a camo stock. Detachable AI mag. Mix in Northshore Barrel's skills.

And you get a gun that, at 100 yards, was on the target in two shots and hitting the bull in six. I am still working on a load but it is very accurate.

Pics you twit :D

I keep thinking that I should be doing a ultra-lightweight 7mm-08 Mountain rifle type build. Not sure why as there are no mountains here, btu that's what's caught my fancy lately. No surprise, I suppose, that I have a Pre-64 Long action magnum boltface donor in the safe right now.

Well, there are mountains in Canada. That's good enough.
And on the pre-64: 404 Jeffery. Just do it for you.

I would just like to complete some of the umpteen projects I have on the go now!!! There's my mod 70 supergrade 340 Wby, I rechambered it, moved the bolt stop back and the ejector and got it shooting sub MOA. Now all I have left is to open up the rear of the action in the mag well and build a new mag box, but can't seem to get around to it! Need to change out the barrel on my 22-284 for the slower twist one, got the new barrel and reamer, just can't seem to get around to it. Got a beautiful 98 mauser stock made by Pete Grissel given to me by a good friend, have a Parker Hale donor action and a Bevan King 416 barrel and PT&G Obendorf bottom metal. I'm going to build either a 9.3X68 Imp (got a BK one of them too) or a 416 Ruger but can't seem to..........well, you know. Then there's the 475 barrel and reamer I designed and bought (475 on a shortened Rigby case) as well as the 100 Norma cases in 416 Rigby and a Brno 602 as a potential donor, but I just can't seem to...........There's the shortened 98 mauser that was made by Bevan that was supposed to become a 458X2", had that one for years now and I can't seem to............

C-FMBI - Don't you think a Pete Grissel stock and PT&G Oberndorf bottom metal deserve something a little more...."worthy" than a Parker Hale action? Heck, FN built M98's are almost a dime a dozen at Trade-ex.

No kidding.

Doug, tell me more about the 9.3x68 Imp. Just 8x68 necked up and FF out to 40 degrees? That could be a beast!

I have me heart set on the Brenneke; the lines are classic and its actually obtainable if I get to the dark continent.

To be honest 1899, I don't know one 98 from another, really. I do know it's not a VZ24, but is the FN a truly superior action to the PH. Who made the commercial PH actions, are they the Santa Barbara? Is there something wrong with the PH actions, it's not a military action it's a commercial action. I'm really not a big fan of 98s but here's this beautiful stock already inletted and this nice clean 98 PH action, so I thought.........................and a barrel full of barrels, take your pick.

Rem 338, the reamer I had made is a 30 deg shoulder not 40, cause that's the way I like them. It is a 7mmX68 imp reamer but I'll just build a 9.3 pilot for it and then use a 9.3 neck and throater. The case, as I have designed it, holds exactly the same amount of Win 748 powder as a 300 WM case. I use 748 as a comparative medium for comparing case capacities of all kinds of different and wildcat cases. Yep it should be a thumper and I just happen to have 200 brand new RWS 8X68 cases waiting for the build. When you stand this case beside the 375 Ruger it is almost impossible to tell them apart, the 68 is a touch longer. I'm actually heading the .416 Ruger (maybe 416X68 imp would be good too and then I'm not married to that crap Hornady brass) way now though cause I bought a 9.3X300 WM from a buddy a while back in a beautiful Sako AV, so the 9.3X68 imp would be rather redundant. I got the Speer 270s running at 3025 fps from the Sako so yep she's a thumper, got to work up loads for the 286 Part next, looks like 2800 fps should be doable.

Screw this together so I can send my 270 WSM Montana away for a 7 WSM barrel.

Do something with the .243 takeoff and AI dies I have laying around...

By then my A5 should be in and I'll have to buy a damned .243 SPS Varmint....or just give in and call Juan Valdez and buy one of those 6.5mm blanks he has laying around....

Just got mine back from Corlanes for the upcoming sheep season. It's a 700 titanium in a Sako 75 style edge stock from mcmillian with and extended Wyatt's mag box chambered with a min spec reamer in 300 wsm using a PAC nor #3 barrel. There is a removable brake with a thread protector and a rifle basix trigger. I have been working up loads with the 175 lrx at 200 using h4831sc and h4350. I think I'm going to go with the 4831 so now I just need to stretch it out and see how much the zero moves at distances with the thread protector on.
I topped it with a Swarovski brx 3.5-18 in talleys. Could of saved some weight there but I love the scope

I hear ya...you never know when a mountain hunt will sneak up on you!

Dunno about the 404...the action is only standard length. I've been back and forth, 264, 338, 458. Replicate the old M70, go high-end wood and rust blue or go "modern custom" with an impervious finish and synthetic stock.

Decisions, decisions!

Well, if it is a standard magnum action there is a reasonable solution to that dilemma:
.358 Norma. Of course a proper barrel contour, some NECG sights, rust blue and a figured but not fancy piece of Turkish carved into a fast but hand filling English stalking rifle style.....similar to Westley Richards old magazine rifles.
250gr Partitions over H4350 will get 2850fps or better. Lots of authority and class there!

I want a 375 RUM, just a barrel needed

What stock is that in the pic and I totally understand your desire for a 375RUM I put mine together a few years ago = it is my favorite do everything bolt action/cartridge combo.

Shortened to 21" barrel/3lbs trigger/NECG Masterpiece banded front sight/Leupold QWR bases & rings/XS Sights tall Weaver backup ghost ring sight/Leupold VX3 4.5-14X40mm B&C reticle scope/glass bedded action/Kick-Eez recoil pad.

I load with RL17 powder = 260gr Accubonds @ 3020fps/300gr anything @ 2750fps/350gr TSX @ 2450fps.

CC its a McMillan A5, I still can't decide on barrel length, but it will have a brake,,lol so longer might be better.

If I wasn't going for a specific use I would have left the barrel at 24".

That is a nice stock I'm looking at a Manners folder MCS-TF1... :D
