Hey, took this female at about 25 yards, broadside with 3'' Remington #4 buck through my turkey choke.

However she had a balding spot on the left side of her body. I took a quick snap with the cellphone, anyone on here really familiar with mange? Her tail and back end were fine with no noticeable spots of hair loss.

Any info is helpful.

Yea today was my first encounter with it. What a terrible thing to have in -15C weather.

She's scheduled to go into the coyote cooker to make sure it doesn't affect the beagles.

Thanks for the info guys .

Sure looks like it. Did she smell bad? Every coyote I've ever dropped with mange has stunk really bad like a wet dog but much worse.

If you have dogs at home be careful as you can transmit the mites that cause mange to them.

The guys I was with told me the same thing about contaminating my dogs. I went home, washed all clothing that i was wearing and I showered myself. I figure the dryer will likely get hot enough to kill off the mange.

That;s the beginning of mange. Easy to see that she's been digging at her side with her back leg. A few weeks age my buddy and I called two mangey yotes. They sure were sick looking. My buddy shot one last year that was missing most of it's hair due to mange. It had a rat tail.

Definately Mange, dont touch em after. I hate to sound like a true redneck( which I am) but light em up. Gas diesel mix and a match works. Hide is worthless in advanced states. It also gets transmitted to other yotes now that breeding season is here and yes your animals can get it. Call it mother natures way of thinning out the herd.

Yea, it's slotted to be put into the coyote cooker... our outdoor wood furnace. I really don't want this spreading any further than it already has. What a disease to have when during a winter as cold as ours.

Your vet has a extra vaccination to protect your dog from the mange and it also protects against another virus they can get from other small mammals.I had my Lab done last time as he will eat crap and anything else on the farm he finds.Hope this helps---Dieseldog1

Your vet lied to you, there is no vaccine against mange, it's not a virus. Mange is caused by a mite and the most effective treatment is ivermectin, but it's not approved for dogs as collies and those dogs related to them can die when treated.
