I want to get either a mp22 or a Sig 226-22lr for the wife ;) yeah the wife;). She loves shooting her 715T but recently she has taken a fondness to my GSG, though I am generally pretty good at sharing... she needs her own.

Beside the fact that the Sig is upgradeable to 9mm which one would be the better choice and why?

My 2 cents......I own both. My wife is not much of a shooter but has come out on occasion. The only difference she picked up on was the double action first shot trigger on the sig compared to the M&P. The trigger pull is better on the sig in SA. The sights on the sig are a 3 dot system, where as the M&P only has a dot up front. She preferred the E2 grip of the sig better than the M&P.
My only major personal gripe with the sig is the lack of a last shot hold open. Any other questions I can help with feel free to ask.

I've owed the S&W and have the 22lr conversion kit for my 226 9mm.

Either way you can't go wrong. Honestly it all comes down the the trigger.
Sig is about $100 more from what I have seen.

If you think you will want to go to 9mm too check out this math. You might find lower prices elsewhere. These prices are just what I have seen recently.
Sig P226 22lr $550 + 9mm kit $450 = $1000
S&W M&P 22lr $440 + S&W M&P 9mm $600 = $1040 (and you have 2 pistols)

The main thing I don't like about the Sig P226 .22lr is that the slide doesn't lock back after the last round has been fired. You're dry firing the gun on every clip unless you are actually counting shots taken. I bought the M&P22.

I am not a great pistol shooter but as far as accuracy, i find them pretty much the same. Reliability has been flawless on both with any major malfunctions ar all ammo related.

I'm wondering - who actually has an M&P22 in stock? I'm looking and can't find them anywhere. Other people on the forums have not been able to get extra mags for them either.

Walther actually builds this gun for S&W in their german factory. Officially, S&W was the Canadian distributor for Walther until the end of 2012, but that is now over. Is it going to be more difficult and expensive to get Walther-sourced stuff now in Canada?

The sig is upgradable with the issues mentioned, I have shot the MP22 and it's a nice pistol, but you can't change the grip swell. It would have been nice if they could have done it with a slide adapter instead of complete pistol.

I bought my P226 a couple months ago and absolutely love it. My biggest reason for buying it was the potential to upgrade it to a larger calibre down the road and the quality. No FTF or FTE with any type of ammo. My top two choices for a .22LR pistol came down to these two pistols. I had an extremely hard time finding either one of them. I found the sig in stock first and bought it instantly. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.
