Looking for some info.

Could not find a sticky regarding it nor an old thread but my search skills on this site are borderline retarded

I was talking to a friend regarding Norinco AR15's, we got onto the pros and cons.

I'm no Norc snob, I own an M14, I've shot the sig clone and the M4 clone and they both shoot just as good as the originals of which I have also shot extensively.

How are the Norc AR15's when it comes to compatibility with aftermarket parts?

Also how are they for interchaneability with interior parts like trigger groups, bolt carriers, bolts, furniture etc?

I've been told now that they don't fit any other standardized AR15 parts made by the other big North American manufacturers.

Educate me Black Rifle geeks!

they are mill spec. anything will fit them that will fit the other makes.

(the CQ113 full size is a m16a1 tho so is metric)

Good to know!

Thanks!

A lot of misinformation out there for sure eh?

I also heard varying things regarding the finish on the Norcs, I've been told that the earlier models were painted with junk finish and the later models had the more solid parked style finish.

Am I right out of it on this info as well?

Also look up the thread where people talk about the difficulties of removing the front sight post.

Otherwise you can swap in most everything. Mine has lots of Magpul nonsense on it.

I have a bunch of magpul and various junk on my 14.5" too. It has a commercial buffer as stated above, and I cut the front site/gas block off mine with a dremel. Other aftermarket parts fit with little or no modifications. (Magpul MOE hand guard needed to be fitted slightly) The finish on mine wasn't great, but I wasn't expecting it to be and I since I saw this gun as a "tool" more than a showpiece it didn't bother me.

I think i've read that the gas tube is a larger diameter and could be a snug fit into a non-norc gas key.
i've only had first hand expierance installing an ebay quadrail that installed without issue.

Hmmm

Seems they are not the drop in fit for interchangeability after all.

Anyone had any experience swapping out the charging handles, bolt carriers, trigger assemblies with Colt/Armalite parts or other major manufacturers?

The 311 is different from the CQ-A
The CQ-a is mil-spec the tube is commercial , I have droped in all of the above with no issue. The gasblock is a major pain in the ass to get off , gas tube fit fine in Aftermaket upper

Everything after market I put on my Norc 10.5" had fitting issues. Everything is possible but you need a bit of work to make it happen. Well at least with mine. Latest anodized edition 2013.

I've changed every part in a cq-a with something NA at least once....... I have never had a problem......

Well, other than the FSB, and hand guard...... FSB needed to be cut off and NA made hand guards needed to be filed to fit.

Again, if it needed fitting then it doesn't fit properly. A non drop in handguard would be the benchmark as to whether or not the Norc is compatible. And its apparent, they aren't.

tell that to all the guys here that had to take files and dremmel's to thier magpul furniture to get them to fit on the Norinco's

most aftermarket parts will fit, but not all.

as TDC said...they are not milspec.

I just picked up a 2013 CQa 10.5 and so far have had no issues giving it the tacticool treatment with MAGPUL MOE parts. The MOE carbine stock (commercial) fit fine no adjustment needed and the MOE pistol grip just needed the standard smack to get it on. That said I haven't put a new gas block on it yet or a free floating handguard. New AGW muzzle break is on the way and over the summer I'll be doing the gas block and handguard, and everything I do will be documented and videoed so if I do run into issues I can share it. As I go I'll post the updates and a review of the rifle and how well everything did or didn't workout.

The only parts that I have found that are not North American spec are the front handguard retainer and the gas tube. The retainer being a little smaller in diameter so I simply put on a North American one (simple is perhaps not the right word as the 900 lb 8 ft tall Chinese that puts those taper pins in the front sight base does not want them to come out at all!!) and the tube being a little larger where it fits into the carrier tube.
