Our FNs did get a pretty good exposure to sand in various Canadian "deserts" in places like Wainwright, Dundurn, Shilo, Borden and Petawawa and seemed to stand up fairly well in it. Any rifle will foul with sand if it isn't kept clean, incl the old desert stand-by, the Lee-Enfield. One good thing about the FN was that it was quick to strip and keep clean in the field.

i was wrong, i was actually thinking of the sterling, the british spiral cut bolt for the sterling worked better in the cold than the canadian C1 plain bolt, and vis versa for sand, my mistake
The 12(5) guns were prohibited because they were in a gun digest catalog and looked "scary". There is evidence obtained through F.O.I. requests to this effect. Many of the 12(5) firearms are very difficult to convert to full auto as the parts to do so never existed. Many of these guns resembled full auto firearms but had completely different mechanism and function - some shared with sporting rifles.
And last, but not least the C2A1 (also dewat) bought off the EE about 8 years or so back. It was a live gun, and actually lasted the week on the EE. At first I didn't have the heart to buy it for deactivation, but when it went BTT, I grabbed it. Hurt like hell drilling through the chamber, but she rests in peace now.

I see that your ex OPP 8L is marked FNC1A1. Referring again to Blake's book, CAL strongly urged DND to identify them as FNC1A2 because
of the three or so major mods.
