Entry Level 10/22 Scope

Newb question here; I am looking to buy a cost effective (business speak for on the cheap side) scope for my Ruger 10/22 All Weather, basically under $100. I'm a little bit limited as to what's available locally in store so I'm not against ordering on line but I do like to see things in person, that being said I would trust in any suggestions made by the community here. Closest dedicated gun store is about an hour away and currently doesn't have any stock of anything I'd consider entry level. Down the street Wal Mart has a Tasco 3-9x32mm for .22, anyone have any experience with that scope? I have about 600 rounds through the gun with the open sights, trying to get reasonabley proficient with that, but I see the desire for a scope on the horizon. The idea here is to spend the up coming summer getting some rounds down range and on target for relatively cheap to see where I want to go from there.

Almost anything in the $150-$200 range is a good scope for a 10/22.

Almost anything cheaper will likely disappoint or break.
 
My favourite is the Simmons .22 mag scope w/AO. The Bushnell rimfire scopes are also good. Either would work fine for the purpose you describe and cost well under $100.
 
JimV is picking up what I'm laying down. I don't expect much for under $100, I just want to get something that will work reasonably well for me to gain experience and see where to go from there. I don't want/need to be the guy at the range with a super pricey set up on my 4th time out.

Phone Del Selin's in Vernon and get him to send you out one of the Simmons 3-9s with an AO, or one of the Bushnell fixed 4 power rimfire scopes. Either would be under $100, and for a little more you could upgrade to a decent set of rings.
 
The bushnell banner line has some ok stuff in the 100-150 range plus rings I have a 6-18x50 banner on my 17hrm which cost me $150 and is pretty good for the price point. I would avoid anything from Walmart and forsure anything that is less than $100
 
I'll go a bit against the grain here. :)
Bought a 10-22 off the EE here @ 10 years ago, put a cheap ( $50.00 incl. rings ) Tasco on it. Used it for @ 5 years, mainly just plinking in gravel pits, etc, the odd time at the range shooting targets @ 50 yards. It worked fine, did everything I wanted it to.
Sat in the safe for maybe 5 more years then the Son & I were getting ready to go out grouse hunting. His Savage auto was missing the mag so we went into the safes lokking for something for him to use. Pulled out the 10-22 and off to the range. Shot like a dream, Son was doing grouse head sized groupings shooting off hand at 25 yards. That rifle / scope has been shot, banged around, dropped and then stored for 5 years.
So, I'd say you need to decide what use you will make of your rifle. If it's just tin can and grouse shooting, by all means spend $50.00 and if and when you graduate to 100 yard shots, move up scale with a better scope. If you want to immediately be doing a lot of target shooting then by all means spend more and get more.
 
I can speak for the goodness of the simmons .22 mag line of scopes. I have used one for years, for several thousand shots and it hasn't let me down once.

My buddy even dropped the gun from shoulder height when he slipped on ice, all that happened was it got off zero. After a quick 10 minutes, we had it bang on again and everything working smooth.

I know lebaron sells them for not much, around 50 bucks without the adjustable objective, 70 with. They come with rings but they might not fit yours, so check that out, estimate another 20 or so bucks in there.
 
I'm quite new to target shooting but I've scoped 5 rifles now.
3 with Simmons cheapo scopes, 1 with a LASER, and one with a Nikon 3-9 x 40.

The cheapo scopes are great for plinking at 50 yards.
However, when I look through the Nikon the difference is quite remarkable. Clear large image and I KNOW where the shot will hit(from a rest).

I've looked through $1,500 scopes and haven't seen any difference but to be fair, it's always in a store and I'm not sure what to look for.
FWIW, I think you're on the right track, $50 - $100 is a cheap education for a scope some of these guys would chuck in the recycle bin brand new. I have nothing but respect for those guys but not all of us can shoot the wings off a fly at 500 yards without destroying the meat.

I can GIVE you a older but works great Bushnell 4x32 fixed power scope,I bought a new one and have this one laying on a bench.Its yours if you want to send me 10 bucks so i can ship it.
 
As others suggested the bushnell banner or simmons 22 mag are good scopes for the money. Just don't go for the real cheap NC star crap or other bottom barrel junk. The best thing to do is buy used off the EE here, then you can get a $150 scope for $100 and pay no tax.

* Edit: take that guys generous offer of the 4X bushnell for free and buy 2000 .22 rounds with the savings!
 
I have a tasco 6-24 on my 10/22 and its great for a cheap scope, little blurry at higher magnification but not bad. Wouldn't hesitate putting another one on a .22
