lookin for a scope for a beginer

So I just baught my first rifle, a savage model 11 hunter. It came with a scope but idk how good it is, its a bushnell 3-9, seems ok but i want to start shooting with a good setup n get used to it instead of having to buy things as i go along. Its chambered in .223, so im just lookin fot a decent scope that i cwill not have to change as i progress, but also wont cost me an arm n a leg. Any and all advice is appreciated. also sorry for the bad spelling was done on my phone lok
 
Just shoot the snot out of what you have! Learn the basics, figure out where your strengths and weaknesses are then by the time your ready to upgrade glass I guarantee you'll wanna upgrade your rifle as well.
 
Good glass is not cheap spend money once, If you buy a Sightron S 111 scope or NF you will not be disappointed

Ultimare monkey- around 450 i know its not alot but i was lucky to b able to get the rifle ib the first place

Shaolin- i plan o shootin the hell outta it lol ill have to save for a ything i wanna buy i got a smaaall budget so tryin to make due
 
I would get used to shooting the scope that came with the gun. It's not an absolutely terrible scope, and will allow you to learn and practice. Save your pennies, and when you have some spare cash, buy a nice one. You won't know what you're gettign for your money unless you use a cheap scope first :) I used to think my Bushnell scopes weren't too bad, and they're not, but then I looked through a Nikon at the shop, and I need one :)
 
Ok, thankyou all for your input, definately gonna check out some of the aboce but i am definately gonna end up getting a new scope may take me a while but ill get there, and also i need a new stock as mine is inxredibly flexible so far, are there any rather inexspensive dtocks sround anyone kbows about or where to find, i. Going to have this gun a while n want to make it reach as far as i can before i get a new one, lol but once again im on a tight budget
 
Depending on what kind of Bushnell scope you have on there $450 may not be a whole lot better. Out to 200 meters the 3x9 should work good. Do some shooting and see what direction you want to go. I am doing my searching now and I would say that for $450 in long range shooting you'd be looking for new glass pretty quick anyway. I am totally happy with my Bushnell 3x9 and Banner Lite Site for hunting out to 300.
 
There isnt a $450 scope out there that will not need to be replaced in short order for something better. If you really want to upgrade then grab a Bushnell 10x40 to learn on. At $260 or less new and $200 or less used they are the only scope that offers any real advantage over what you already have. The glass and tracking are incredible for such an inexpensive scope but the lack of parralax and serious magnification will be a problem when you get past 100 yds for shooting tiny groups. If you want something you wont feel the need to replace anytime soon then look at Sightron or better. Youre going to need at least a grand for one but they are worth it. Lots of competitive shooters use them without feeling the need for more.
 
I did just what your experiencing Savage 12 .223 with a low end Vortex Scope. Although the gun did well the scope definitely was not close to the standards I wanted. I now have taken the advice of experienced CGNers and have purchased 2 Sightron S111 and a Nightforce BR. Extreme improvement. Don't cheap out on glass.
 
Thanks again all for the input, i guess im gonna do what most of you are saying and wait till i can afford a scope worth buying!! haha Guess im just thinkin too big too fast lol
 
I think that from the buy once cry once principle, it's a fairly practical beginner scope, but the bushnell/vortex/hawke options will be more economic

X2....good advise on telling him to make do for now.

OP, you said you're on a small budget, use what you got.....Time spent shooting and learning will be helpful to what you really want to do in the future, plinking, long distance target shooting or maybe just hunting will occupy your time..

If you do want to get a really good scope in the future....I'm pretty sure you can find a t least a dozen really good scopes for under 2 grand :D
