Ahhh... Awesome...

There are a few threads on these already… I can tell you this though; it is not some reverse evolution in gun control so much as it is to prove a political point…

Do you guys think we might see a change in canadian gun laws as to which part of the AR is restricted? Maybe the end of the magazine capacity limitations in Canada?

Which this technology it is going to be harder to regulate these items. These printers are becoming cheaper, lots of post secondary schools have them, there are even some high schools with them now.

Opinions? Interesting choice of music. "Bolero" is a traditional dance music :ar15:

Not sure about the trigger but wow, hell of a start for a "printed" lower. Must have the Anti's sh#tting their pants...

Maybe, if Bernanke can print "money", and one can "print" lowers, anything can be "printed". Crumlin sums it up :D But that won't stop the Wendy's and the Libs of the world trying to "ban printers" LOL.

Hah and we have so much discussion on which type of material AR's are milled from! That appears to be plastic?

I wonder exactly how the "printing" process works??

Looks like it survived a good test. I'd like to see a Class III manufacturer try this on full auto!!!

There are many ways to skin a cat, and with that, there are many ways to make a lower… currently, in Canada, doing so and not registering it with the CFC would be illegal… so do you see the political point… you can make it illegal and ban it every which way you can, but a criminal, someone willing to brake the laws, will be able to circumvent these restrictions… perhaps it wasn’t so evident previously, but the tools and knowledge required to build an AR lower have never been illegal in Canada as far as I know, and many schools have these tools, this just really sticks it in your face…

To sum it up, if you want an illegal gun you can get one, but 3D printing it probably isn’t your best option…

Plastic lowers are nothing new... 3D printing though...

Also with some of the newer technologies in 3-D printing, you can print plastics with a modulus the same as aluminum, accurate to tens of microns. And ontop of that there are some printers that can produce objects with over 100 different plastics and can combine them in any ratio. And soon there will be 3D metal printing. So nearly the whole firearm can be produced at home.

Its not so much the machine that is doing the 3d printing it is the plastic being used, Like kanwar said there is alread 3d metal printers, the company I work for built one. Could you print a lower with it not likely but the new ones for sure. The legislation in place already says that you have to have the lower registered regardless of how you maunfacture it. In the states there is a law that says a firearm has to be able to be seen by a metal detector. The antigun groups are already changing there tune, they are going after the ammunition now, expect huge drives to limit then restrict ammunition and powder.

Defcad is cool, look up the site, the guy running the group has had consistant death threats.

Unfortunately we cannot 3d print ammunition, at least not with current weapon systems. there has been research done by H&k involving caseless ammunition, but still the requirement of gun powder. After that you're lookin at something a lot more sci fi.

I agree that they will go after the ammo, but to what extent, that's speculation.

So what's with the legality of this in Canada? I'm under the impression you can print it here, but then need to register it right away.

Cool thing is that the newer 3D printers can also print in colour, so if you want a solid pink receiver where the colour won't chip away...you can make it!

Heck you can even have multi color/multi material, so have the handgrip integral to the receiver if you wished and made it of a more rubber type plastic.

Any white part of an AR needs Hello Kitty stickers to make it look good. If you can't find those then, and only then, can you substitube in My Little Pony stickers.

Learned that on ar15.com
