Yesterday at the range we somehow got onto the topic of gun hold point in trap. There are a number of factors that are at play gun hold point, of course. But another chap said he generally held his gun higher when he moved back to handicap distances. It surprised me as I have done the opposite for quite some time now. I feel it might be better to do it the way that I do, but have no reason to think he is a worse shot by any means. Then we went on to foot position, another interesting topic. I adjust my feet slightly 'less' as I move across from station 1 to 5 at handicap distances than I do when changing stations at the 16. I guess I feel that movements and adjustments should be less the further back one goes because it takes less movement to make a big change in distance at the bird. (He, of course, leaves his feet the same.) Certainly various teachers say foot position and hold point are important in clays generally and describe positions and hold points. But I haven't actually found a discussion of these topics where adjustments are described as one moves back in trap. Can anyone point me to an article or discussion about this? Of course, opinions and what others do would be very welcome too. Thank you. Fred

Check out some of Brad Dysinger's videos if they are still available?. He has some good information on gun hold points that worked well for me. Got me up out of the 96 average in singles I had been at for years into the 98 average. He had some good info on handicap as did some of Kay Ohye's gun cam footage.

Watched (intently) as both Brad & Kay went through their targets at half a dozen or so shoots
back in the mid 70's.

If they've got something to say, I'd certainly listen !

Couldn't find any of Dysinger's videos, at least not so far. Easy enough to find Ohye though. I actually have one of his tapes on gun fitting, but never went to his site. I was kind of hot and cold on the disk I have, but I noticed he does have a video specifically directed toward handicap on his site. So, you have probably caused me to spend a bit of money Spank. You didn't help either bb. Nice to have people to blame for a change :). Of course, I don't usually need any help to spend my money on shooting.
