hey all, i recently bought a brand new cz858, i love the gun..fixed stock. just wondering if anyone had any mod ideas or mods they had done they really liked?

B&T magwell adapter - converts 7.62 to use LAR 15 mags. If you got .223 there a CSA magwell adapter. I did the usual, telescoping stock, pistol grip, muzzle brake. Got a dust cover scope mount on order too.

The two mods I've made to mine are:

Larger pistol grip (the stock one is really small for my meathooks)
Flash hider/muzzle break combo (I don't remember off the top of my head who I got it from - this was a couple years ago)

The next mod I'm going to do is putting a recoil pad on the (fixed) stock. Not because the recoil is too much (lord, no - this thing hardly recoils at all) but to increase the length of pull. I find it REALLY short.

Besides a paint job I added a muzzle brake and swapped out the OEM grip for the FAB Defense grip (HUGE improvement). I am considering adding a fibre optic front sight post. Otherwise I'm happy to shoot it as is.

A railed top handguard, and a peep rear sight and fiber optic front is all the extras I need but I like the stock gun's furniture as is.

Change the aberration that is the grip and put a muzzle brake.

Leave the rest as is imo.

I only did one mod but it's a must. That was installing an extended Magazine release. The stock one is for Girly fingers.

Nea top handguard, bushnell trs-25 or vortex Sparc, Rausch rear peep sight, ambi mag release and tactical bolt release oh and the full size pistol grip. That should fill all your needs for the CZ

What? No one has mentioned an extended mag release? That is a must! As is a tactical bolt release, all from Zahl of course.

Why do you say this???

Unless you're a lefty (a 10% possiblity) the rifle is designed to have the magazine removed with the left (support) hand. As for a tactical bolt release, I just use my left hand over the bolt handle to release the bolt.

That said, I like to keep my rifles (and pistols) KISS, meaning they operate as they're designed to. YMMV

I am going to get the tactical bolt release for my VZ58 for this exact reason.
Reducing the amount of complex movements is a good thing IMO.

Reaching over the top of the rifle with your left hand to release the bolt is way more movement than simply extending your right index finger and pushing the release button. KISS is a good philosophy and in this scenario IMO keeping it simple means using the tactical bolt release instead of coming over the top with the left hand. Probably saves a couple of seconds as well.

But I am new to this so I dont know sh1t honestly.

Point acknowledged, Konjo. As I said, I'm a KISS guy, and I really can't see justifying the expense of modding the bolt release - that is for ME, though!

Since our laws (dumb as they are) restrict us to 5 round magazines, I can reload with a stripper clip faster than I can change magazines (I've timed it - believe it or not, I save 2 seconds give or take a 10th here or there reloading with a stripper clip over changing the magazine, all that practice with my SKS actually meant something lol :D). Once I shove the 5 rounds in off the stripper clip, my hand (either right or left hand, usually the right hand) is right at the bolt handle, so it's nothing at all to swipe my hand back and release the bolt carrier to chamber a round and get back in the competition (3 Gun normally).

That's the way I quickly reload my 858 and SKS, your method may vary.

Whatever works for YOU is whatever works!!

I have a decent question that I was going to thread in another post, but I'll try here as people are already talking about mod's and muzzle breaks. Is it possible to get a 19" 858, Cut the barrel down to say, 17" and add a muzzle break (NEA or something like that) that will make it just over 18.5" and still be classified as non-restricted? Just thinking it might be a neat little project providing it wouldn't be stoopid expensive for not a heckuva lot of benifit. I just think the look would be nice, little bit shorter of a barrel and all + non-restricted.

...but spektor for your question they can do a couple of different things. Mainly being the control of recoil and muzzle climb, dampening sound, and the asthetics of the rifle. Different designs can change different attributes, but the best imo is controling muzzle climb.
