Im just wondering if anyone has ordered straight from Savage Arms for their rimfire before? Also I thought I saw somewhere these forums a phone number awhile back for a place out in Ontario for Savage? Anyone have that?

Im looking to order the longer action bolts for my 17 from them. I believe they are 12-32 by 1" long.

Also if anyone know where I can order 2 sling swivel studs for my stock in Canada let me know please.
Im looking for 2 of these in 3/4"

I tried the screws form the plastic stock in a boyds today and they work just fine. The longer screws you get from savage are .928" and the ones form the plastic stock are .915"

Oh and swivel studs can be bought almost anyplace.

Ive had my older ones (plastic stock) in and I can only get it to tighten about two threads. Which aint enough at all.

Ive looked around and everyone sells the short (1/2") and the long (3/4") studs. I wanted the 3/4" for the front and back.

thx

I ordered the metal trigger guard, bottom plate and longer action screws direct from Savage US with no problems. It was around $40 in total, IIRC. If you don't have the phone number let me know and I will dig it up.

I have ordered longer action screws. I ordered 4, but really only need 1. I want spares. I do believe they are 12-32 and thus impossible to find anywhere else. My issue is that I got one that is 1"-ish in length, and the other they used a 3/4" long one, which only affords 1 or 2 threads engagement. Not cool. The rear trigger assembly stud was also cross threaded on. :-( Must have been a Friday afternoon build. The replacement action screws should be long enough. IIRC, you have to get the longer screws meant for a laminated stock in order to get the 1" screw. I think that screw is part number 704346, but don't quote me on that. Oddly, I had good success using the Midway USA website to do a search for the screw, which had a nice picture, measured dimensions, and a cross-reference to Savage's part number for confirmation.

Savage said they are shipping it, but so far it has taken forever! Not here, yet. There is a customer service/parts phone number on the website.

Thanks Mark. Ill check for their number, Im sure its on their site.

Thanks Moose. Ill have to take a peek at midway tonight.

Midway doesn't ship to Canada... As said above there is no problem ordering from Savage directly... The regular action screw works fine in the rear lug but you will need the longer screw for the front lug... Or you can use the long in both, but I have seen a couple guns bottom out with long screw in the rear lug hole before proper torque was reached... I switched out all my metal to DIP hardware on all six of my Savage rimfires...

I built my own DIP bottom metal. I was a little time consuming (about an hour) but not that hard.

1. Go to Home Depot. For $6.50 I bought a 1" wide, 1/8" thick, 48" long chunk of flat steel bar.
2. Using your existing flimsy Savage bottom metal, trace the outline onto the flat steel bar. The bar will be just barely wider, and the same thickness as DIP metal.
3. Hacksaw the tracing to length.
4. Using an ordinary bench grinder, grind almost to shape. Once you get close, change over to a belt sander or hand-file. You can't put metal back on, but you can take too much off.
5. Once you have a perfect outside shape, mark and drill the two mounting holes. This should be easy peasy.
6. I used a smallish drill bit, and carefully drilled the inside perimeter of the magazine well with a stream of close holes. Again, don't drill too close to the edge.
7. Once you have a perimeter of small holes, it will be fairly easy to knock out the magazine well.
8. Just like the outside perimeter, slowly use a hand-file to cut the magazine well to size. Since you still have your flimsy Savage metal as a template, getting it perfect will be as easy has overlaying the two and taking small swipes with the file.
9. Polish off all the edges, sand it smooth, paint it black.

I also have a dremel tool and used a micro-router attachment to deepen the bottom metal inlet on the stock to 1/8" deep. Now I have DIP metal, sitting perfectly flush with the stock, for $6.50 and a hour worth of labour. Maybe two hours, since I am super cautious.

After I received my Tacticool stock from Boyd's (before they were banned from export) I, too, built my own bottom metal, from bar stock that had had in hand (I do a lot of metal fabrication & machining at home). It turned out excellent, and as strong as anything you could get anywhere.

I built my own trigger guard, too, although in the end I ordered one from Savage to go with the longer screws (which, by the way, have been pretty much impossible to get anywhere - they were fairly common in 1950's-1960's British cars, but they are not to be found anywhere now), extra magazines, etc.

The stuff I ordered from Savage came quickly, and with absolutely no hassles whatsoever. They were a pleasure to deal with, shipped very quickly, and I would not hesitate to deal direct with them again.

You don't have DIP metal... DIP is a company; Diversified Innovative Products... only a product manufactured and distributed by "DIP" can be called DIP metal... what you have is a homemade magazine plate... many have made them... I have made a few myself, and as you point out it is not that hard a job and gives a much more rigid platform to anchor the action screws against... which can only help accuracy.

I purchased the DIP bottom metal, which involves a trip over to pick it up. Well worth it, if this isn't the only reason you make the trip.

Which means I have the original trigger guard, magazine plate and screws from a MkII BTV (laminated thumbhole) just sitting around. If someone wants to PM me a reasonable offer, I can ship them out. Or arrange for a pick-up if you're in the greater Hamilton area.

I've also ordered magazines from Savage. Twice. 2-3 weeks is about right and you're not likely to get better service or prices around here.

Has anyone ordered magazines from the Savage site? I just bought a MKII and will need a few extra!

They seem to be sold out everywhere I've looked online. I'm definitely in the market for a couple extra as well, preferably 10-round.

Also, to reply to the OP, Savage has a place in Lakefield, Ontario.
