Hi
I have purchased a couple of in stock handguns from CanadaAmmo and 1 from Marstar. I don't have any restricted weapons at this time.

The order was placed more than a week ago and I have yet to receive any information on my order other than its processed.

can someone please shed some light on what is the actual transfer process and if there is anything required on my part to complete the sale? How long does it normally take when its a straight dealer sale?

Also is there a way I can check if they have initiated the transfer process?

your help is much appreciated.

Thank you,
C

Give them a call and inquire... It does take few days for the transfers to be approved when buying from dealers, assuming the transfers were initiated from both Marstar and CanadaAmmo... Not sure about Marstar, but CanadaAmmo is pretty slow in fulfilling orders..

But as I said, give them a shout and find out..

Never purchased restricted from a dealer but I just completed a transfer ( waiting for CFO approval now )
But the seller initiated a transfer the notified me of the reference number.

Is Thu the same for dealers? Or do they have another method?

Some dealers will give you the reference number but most will not.. Unless you specifically ask. They do it all at their end and then ship you the gun... But by the moment the transfer is initiated by the dealer, here in Ontario usually is about a couple of days....

But as I said, CanadaAmmo is notorious for the very slow responses and shipping..

The seller sends your info along with the restricted firearms info to the provincial cfo and they in conjunction with the feds process the transfer application ( 2 days to over a month, depending on your province) once that is done they send the transfer documents to you and the seller. then the seller is permitted to send you the Firearm. This is how I understand the system works. It is sometimes frustrating, but in the grand scheme of things it ain't that bad!

When you purchase from a dealer they do everything as far as the transfer goes.

You can call to enquire if they have intiated the process. If they haven't your call may help get them moving :) If they have started the transfer you can request the transfer number and call the CFC to check on the status of the transfer.

The seller does not have to wait to receive the transfer notification in the mail to ship the firearm. All it takes is confirmation over the phone that the transfer is completed.

CanadaAmmo will give a ref.no if you ask them. They should also provide you with a tracking no. once the item is shipped.I feel it helps to call the firearms office yourself at 1-800-431-4000.Sometimes CanadaAmmo uses CanPar for their deliveries. They can be tricky if they come and your not home. They will leave a return time slip at your door.Make sure if your not going to be home to pick up the package the next time they come, you fill out the slip they left giving them permission to leave the item at a secure area(garage area, back deck, etc) or they will send the package back to the dealer. They (CanPar) won't give you the option to pick up your item at a depot if your not home like others,at least that's what I found with them....

Please do everyone in the firearms community the decency to STOP calling your firearms (or future firearms) WEAPONS. A firearm is NOT a weapon unless used against another human. A fork becomes a weapon when stuffed into someones throat, not before, same for your guns, they are not WEAPONS unless used as such. Now, if your involved in Law enforcement, the military or similar where your sidearm is going to be used as a weapon, then carry on and ignore my little rant, otherwise, please stop calling firearms weapons as this just gives the anti crowd a reason to fear you and your firearms.

I just got an order from CanadaAmmo, via CanPar not too long ago. They left a delivery slip so I could go in and pick it up, but they did not include a location on the notification. I had to email their customer service to get the location, it sounds like they were operating out of another building rather than a proper CanPar facility. As such, they may not have a proper pickup location in all cities.

I have opted not to complete purchases once I've seen that they were going to be shipped by CanPar.

The only depot in my area is about a 90 minute drive through crappy traffic out to somewhere in Burnaby and they close at 5:30pm and aren't open on weekends. For me to order something that was shipping with CanPar it would have to be like 50% off the normal market price or something.

Canada post, UPS, DHL, Fedex and probably a few others at least have depots that I would consider traveling to. CanPar seems to be a smaller company, and it's nice that some vendors are trying to send some business their way, but sorry, it's just a huge pain in the butt for customers. Anyone with a job isn't going to be home when the package comes, and the one and only depot is way the hell out in an area where I would have no reason to go in a million years.

Canada Ammo - restricted transfer took 2 weeks from order to shipped. They email updates and transfer ref# . pretty reasonable when there are so many transfers lately taking more than the week that this one did. Seems to be about average tx time in my experience though.
