I remember reading about these a few years ago. Have any been imported, or classified? Or fat chance.

Well, if I was going to spend $5000 on a rifle, it would be that... GROUP BUY! and we can go through the whole SCAR ordeal again.

A few more for the road

There was a previous thread on these SMG rifles (I assisted with some of the development of these FG42's). The owner is not willing to apply for the export permit licensing due to costs. Even if in place, the RCMP would have to approve the rifle.

So in reality you would need a large importer to make a large commitment to SMG in order to make it worthwhile and you would need to hope that the rifles would be approved.

They did make a semi-auto Bren Gun, I am sure that would have large sales in Canada and also a DP28 which would fill a large gap in anyone's Soviet collection.

Even if you purchased the rifle as a third party, as soon as the export/importer applied for the US export permit, SMG would be slammed and the permit would be struck down. Trust me, the owner and I looked into every way legally possible to import these rifles during development.

There are semi-auto only versions in Canada right now. They are VERY expensive when they come up for sale. I think the last one I saw was in the $8000 range! I would LOVE to have one!!!

i dont doubt they used reweld receivers in the bren guns that would be a converted auto here

The legal SSD version is what is know to collectors as a Type I (more stamped parts - see my rifle below) The prices quoted are correct and there are less than 20-30 in the country. SSD also makes a Type II, but none were legally imported. SMG only makes a Type II model, in 8mm and soon in 308 (economy of ammo).

There was a used SSD BD42 on the EE with a very low round count a few months back for 6K and with ammo, considering they were 10K new. (Almost half price)

It's a new made replica (SSD), and they don't seem to hold their value like a K98, G43, etc,
but I guess that can be expected as it has no actual battlefield use like a pre 1945 wartime made rifle.

More of a Toy or a shooter than an actual collectable.

Shoei also makes non shooter new made replica G43's in Japan. (Toy as well).

Kind of like if Colt came out with a "GI Joe 1911A1 Commemorative" as compared to the real thing.

Also Winchester 94 Commemoratives.
