Weaver Bases, whats with different slot size????????

Today the store I frequent did not have the usual base (Leupold Rifleman one piece) I've been using. So I was sold a Weaver extended multislot (piccatiny style) base. once home I noticed the base slots are a bit wider than the Leupold base. When I loosen the rings (Leupold PRW) and place them in a base slot there is a lot of play as the cross slot lug in the ring is much smaller than the base slot. There is some play with the Leupold base but no where near as much. Why are the base slots different size, and will it make any difference one the rings are tightened down. One other question, do any of you's use adhesive beside the base screws when scope mounting. Thanks

Yes I read the link an understand the differences, my question of concern is will the rings move back or forth under recoil on the picatinny base as the slots are larger than the cross slots on the rings. Or will they stay put when tightened down.

Thanks, that was my first thought as well, I think I may blue locktite the cross slots on rings and bases as well.
