bedding a savage single shot?

I have a question for you guys that have bedded savages before.

I have the single shot target action, im wondering how far back you went with the bedding compound?

most of it looks really easy, from the barrel nut to the rear action bolt, but what did you do around the trigger group and rear tang?

iv heard some people just stop in front of the trigger group


not sure what to do, any help would be great

thanks for the info guys,

those of you that bed the rear tang, do you remove the trigger group? and how do you remove it? just that one pin at the front of it?

the trigger and tang area looks a kind of tricky to do, I don't want to glue my trigger or safety with Devcon, whats the trick here, where should I remove wood and put Devcon

what im really looking for is someone with specific experience on a savage acutrigger model, that has bedded around the trigger group and rear tang

Id say remove the trigger group completely (search Youtube for a video on this) and just skim bed the rear tang.
 
I bed to just in front of the rear bolt. The tang is left floating on my rifles. The trigger is easy to remove but a little harder to reinstall. Good luck.
 
Ok I think I get what you're asking. You don't want your trigger group anywhere near bedding compound. Learn how to get the trigger out, its easy, pull the pin then it swings down once the safety is out, keep track of the spring orientation under the bolt release. From here you want to fill anything bedding can get into, oh and get some long bolts from the hardware store that match the thread of the action bolts, cut the heads off and thread into action. Now slather the whole action in shoe wax, let dry then polish it really thin. Tape your entire stock everywhere you don't want bedding. In the trigger recess, with the stock and action mated, squish modeling clay into the recess until you find that it is sealing against the action, use some of the wax between clay and steel so you take apart, put together until happy. I'm sure you know this part but worth saying. Wrap the barrel with tape until it creates the barrel float you want, this should be one the first steps. Another thing you might know, maybe not, get a big bag of qtips for cleaning off bedding compound. Have a small garbage can at your feet when you first set the action into the bedding. Only use a qtip once, just scoop, toss repeat for the first ten minutes.
