kar 98 RC price?!?

Gentlemen,

I've been a member for awhile now just mainly reading and learning, taking in all the information on here. But now it seems i have a legitimate question for you. The shop down the road has a shipment of surplus Kar 98 RC that seem a little bit used and abused... the price tag is a cool 630$, and to me that seems high. I was expecting something more in the 400-500$ range as these rifles are getting harder to find on the surplus market which obviously would drive the price up. The stocks are in very rough shape, most of them are still packed full of cosmoline, and a lot of the chambers have metal flakes sitting in the oil, I'm guessing from corrosive ammo and poor cleaning. As far as i can tell i don't have permission to post pics or I'm doing something wrong so we'll have to go with description alone for the time being. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.
 
The price may be higher than the last time, but I've noticed they are disappearing fast. The price is never going to get cheaper.
You'll hear the same story as last time. Just saw an RC go for $695 on the EE.
It's best of course to look them over before buying. Some are in rougher shape than others, but the Russians never refurbished them for collector value.
The bores have all seen corrosive ammo and were more than likely fired and captured before cleaned. Despite that mine still shoots pretty good.
BTW, matching originals are in the $1500- $2000 depending on condition and year. Watch out for the fakes!
 
I bought two, three years ago for $350 each and was told that "they're over-priced". Now the same people are telling us that "they're over-priced at $700, worth more like $400-500", as they fly off the shelves for $700.

Your answer will depend on which "expert" responds.

This irritates, even offends some people, but the value of an item has nothing to do with what they'd pay, but depends on what others would pay. It's always been that way.
 
I looked over one at p&d yesterday, very tempting, but rough and the forced matched numbers didn't even match. I'll save my money for a yugo or Czech and maybe one day save for an original.
 
Same. I'd rather a vz24 or something in nice shape. Or pony up some real money for a non-Ivan'd K98. They can be found in the EE in decent shape for ~$1000.

I supose that the k98" hystery" is generated by the mystic of swastika, everything made in Germany with the swastika sign in nazi time is very well paid. Swastica being asociated with the last stand of the Nordic race for supremacy in the World.

I'm waiting for the price of RC K98's to exceed the price of all matching original K98's, then I will buy an RC, maybe two, or three.
