Hey guys and girls,

My 13 year old daughter came home from school today (grade 8) She was informed by her teacher that assault rifles were evil and should be banned. The class was divided into 2 teams. Group 1 Kids who think all assault rifles SHOULD be banned in Canada go to this side of the room. Group 2 Kids who think they SHOULD NOT be banned in Canada go to the other side. 33 kids in the class 31 go to group 1 my daughter goes to group 2 and so did her best friend who doesn't even know what a gun is for moral support LMAO.

So tonight they have to do research and tomorrow they have to have a debate on the topic Ban vs Not ban... So i have given her some good points but i know there are lots of other good ideas out there i'm missing. So please nutters please help weith some good realistic points on why assault rifles should not be banned!
(Back history i own lots of guns we are a hunting family also pistols and lots of ARs all the kids shoot and hunt)

This only on assault rifles no other guns.

Because an 'assault rifle' is a modernly ergonomic form of a century old firearm design.

Actually if you search the forums a bit you'll come up with lots of threads that have links to supporting info and such on how to slap down anti's. Those would be a good place to get talking points and hard facts.
 
I think your best bet is to go with the "because only the law abiding people follow the law so why should they have to disarm when the criminals won't" tact.

Find some stats about how many of the guns used in crime are not legally owned and run with it.
 
They are exposing 13 year olds to this type of BS? What school is this? We need to contact them and inform them on Canadian firearm laws. They clearly don't realize that owning an AR in Canada is is not the same as owning an AR in the US, but rather a castrated version (assuming you're one of those horrible "law abiding citizens" with pinned mags). You don't even need to give your childs name. Just the name of the school.

Maybe your daughter should read out to the class what the definition of an "assault rifle" really is.
And then she can tell the class that they are already banned(more or less) in Canada and have been for years.
After all, school is about learning the correct definitions of terms, not some political propaganda.

Two points. Things are not evil and assault rifles are already banned in Canada.
 
Well, there is a lot of info on here and Youtube that you can look at.

However, one point she can make right off the top is that Assault weapons (selectable fire guns) are already banned in Canada.

Make sure she knows and can articulate the true definition and difference between an assault rifle and a semi auto, and she can start off by showing that she is knowledgable about the topic and that the stated argument is redundant.

EDIT: Make sure to congragulate her for not being one of the sheep! It takes a strong character at that age to go against the herd mentality. Good for her!!
 
I was gonna say, this debate happened in the 90's when assault rifles were banned. The only thing being banned nowadays are sporting rifles based on their looks and delusional ideas of the uneducated. Teacher definitely needs to be put back in his/her place. The only point your daughter should make is that once all the "evil" guns are banned that all the criminals convicted of firearms offences can be released back into the public because there will be no way for them to reoffend. Please post back with the teachers reaction. I bet his/her mind unravels and they have a mental breakdown when they see how much damage they can do to young minds by letting their emotions drive their teachings.
 
Yea guys I am aware of all this and on your side I personally own 16 Ars. Looking for actual points that can help her in the debate. I'm already calling the school tomorrow.
 
well, select fire rifles are banned. and black target rifles are perfectly legal. I would talk too the school board and make a complaint that the teacher is giving the stundents false information and biasing the students.
 
This is wholly inappropriate for the teacher to do.

It can lead to bullying and ostracism just because your daughter does not share the same opinion as the others.

Teachers should not be dividing kids on the basis of social ideology. This is teaching misconduct.
 
This debate shouldnt be happening in this format.
Something is terribly wrong if the teacher essentially is having the class gang up against 1 kid because of their political beliefs.

Aside from that there are no assault weapons legal in canada just weapons that looks scary to the public. Show a pic of a mini-14 in a wood stock and one of an AR. The AR the class would consider an assault weapon even though both guns have same magazine capacity, shoot the same round and fire at the same rate (semi). Then show them a picture of a mini-14 in some sort of archangel stock (which again the class would think is an assault weapon because it looks scary) then tell them its the exact same gun as the wood one except in a different stock. Long as you use logic kids be screwed.

The major issue with the anti crowd is that there is no understanding of what firearms are actually about (which explains alot of canadian gun laws who where made by people who dont know the first thing about guns). Honestly this could be taken as a chance to educate kids on what firearms are actually about instead of a teacher putting them off guns because they are all "used to kill babies".

Aside from all that though have a talk with a teacher about what he/she is doing and tell them if they want a proper debate to not bias the kids into thinking one way and to not have them team up against 1 kid. If the teacher doesnt listen talk the the principal and im sure you will get results because this goes against at least the Ontario education systems standards of teaching
 
Because to hide away something you are afraid of is irresponsible and and will garner no results. An assault rifle, or indeed a rifle or weapon of any kind is a tool which can be used for good or "evil." in this case a firearm can and has been used many times around the world for the defense of individuals and even groups. My father did not hide matches from me as a child, instead he taught me what they did and the hazards of using them.

sometimes home invaders do not come alone, and what better defense weapon do you have than the one designed for use in close quarters against multiple opponents in a 360 degree battle space? In regards to magazine capacity, perhaps you might not need 30 rounds, but what if you do? I might never encounter a damaging earthquake in my lifetime, do i ignore the need to prepare for one? If it saves just one life.
