Hey all...

So, I've got some money and a baby on the way - got to get my toys while I can.

I got my hunting license this year and am looking for a new shotgun.

Now, you have to understand that I'm a strictly synthetic guy - rails and flashlights if you catch my drift.

I'm looking for a wood and steel shotgun - a semi. I've been eyeballing the Remmy 11-87.

I know there are a few semi's in that price range, am I barking up the right tree?

If the 11-87 is a 3" model and it fits you, then by all means buy it. They are an excellent gun and one that has recieved bad press in the last few years for no valid reason. Some of the 3.5" guns did have had some issues but others have been just as good as the 3" guns...a guy in your position doesn't want to be taking that kind of a gamble so best stick to the 3" 11-87. I'd even suggest that you take a serious look at the Remington 1100 shotguns...you really aren't disadvantaged by only being able to use 2 3/4" shotshells, unlike what marketing wants you to believe!

Check the EE, Firearms Canada or Usedfirearms.ca...there are a few excellent condition to NIB 11-87s for sale at the moment around or under that price. I remember seeing one with the green Remington hard plastic case not long ago...high gloss wood and polished blue...the only way a shotgun should be!

I picked up an 1100 (used) for a song recently and it almost got me to give my browning silver as the gift and keep the 1100, it just fits me that well and the 2 3/4" chamber and fixed modified choke aren't a handicap. 1187's are on the heavy side for some people's tastes so you may want to handle one to see if its weight will bother you.

I'm only partial to Remington because of the trust I have for my 870.

Needs to be around 800$ though.

I have remington stamped on my head also when it comes to 870 and owned a few 1187, In fact that green case one mentioned was probally the one I sold here on the EE. They work OK in 3" but not as well as a browning silver, gold or win x3.
For 800 you can pick up a mint used one of those and have a better gun in my opinion and a higher resale if down the road you expect to upgrade. That is if you like the way it fits you, since honestly few fit so many well as a remington will.

I just picked up a near mint A-5, 12 gauge yesterday.
Old gal with little use.
Fits like a rubber.........errr........gluv

Love my 1100.

Check out Le Baron's in Mississauga. You can get a synthetic OR wood stock one for a decent price. Barring that, there is always the stoeger 2000, (Beretta knock off) if you prefer the recoil versus gas system.

Well if you have a baby on the way and don't want to spend a lot, look for a Mossberg 930 in walnut. I bought my dad the synthetic version and I bought my wife one in walnut. It actually has a pretty nice piece of wood on it for the price. And they both have been trouble free.

3macs1 is known as a Remington guy and he is recommending a B gun. Take his advice.
