I'm new to all this and i'm interested in getting into long distant shooting.. I've narrowed down my choices to 700 sps tac 308 and the aac-sd. Now i see there's a new one that has a 16.5" barrel... Now that 16.5 vs 20 of the others. Is there an advantage going to a 16.5 barrel.. I just wanna make the right choice off the bat... Thanks for any help lol.....

The longer barrel the better shooting F class at 900 m a 26" barrel is week best is 30" The only factory Rifle I know of is the Savage Palma. nice stock.
I prefer the 700 rems actions so many add on available for the 700 if you could find a good action and get yourself a custom hand lapped stainless barrel and get put on would give you the best results

This post pretty much nailed it , my long rang rig is a custom 700 in 7rem mag with a 27 inch Hart. Magnum at least 26' , non magnum at least 24' for LR shooting

ive talked big talk on this site about its accuracy... but i havnt had time lately to get out and put some targets together. im hoping to get out in the next couple of months. The new dies i need are holding me back, there on back order. I have shot a few 5 shot groups under .5 MOA at 1000 yards. Not in the apricot, but just a couple inches high. Its pretty consistant sub MOA out to 1000.

Think im going to start a thread about my dies... Dont want to High Jack this thread. I have a bad habit of doing that.

I shot this 3 shot group when i was breaking it in with 168's , i couldnt believe it so i put another in the middle of the clover. I was so shocked i didnt want to ruin the group so i wouldnt fire a 5th lol ... it was at 300 yards. Im shooting 180gr VLD's now. Its very consistant .5 MOA at 300 yards. It shoots .5 MOA with 180's at 300 so consitanly its boring.

But this did happen

beautiful rifle pilot.....

Actually what i suggest you do if its in your budget is grab a 700 XCR tactical in 300wm ... or better yet a Sendero in 7 Rem mag. I wouldnt mess around with a police. There basically an SPS.

You could get either of the rifles i mentioned in .308 if thats the rout you want to take. Id go with a magnum IMO.

Probably get a good deal on EE on either of those modles if you hold out. I like night force, but if your on a budget that Jerry at mystic precision swears by i think he like s Sightron. They are a lot more reasonably priced. From what i under stand Jerry really knows what he's talking about so if he says there good they probably are. Ive seen lots of other members say good things about them.

If that kit is in your budget it might be a good start. Then if your reloading practices are up to par youll be good to go,
