I have a new 22/45 that I've taken to the range once. I ordered a VQ trigger, sear and hammer bushing which I was going to attempt to install tonight. I have dissasembled and re-assembled the gun a few times with no issues however tonight when I decided to take it apart and put it back together I screwed up a couple of times. The first time the barrel was difficult to remove but after I got it off I realised I forgot to remove the mag. OK I bent the bolt stop assembly a bit. OK thats not a huge deal it can be fixed. The second screw up is the big one. With the owners manual in front of me I followed the re-assembley procedure except for the part where I had to point the barrel up and pull the trigger (to get the hammer to fall back). So you guessed it I put the bolt in and inserted the mainspring housing completely (latching it). So now I can pull the bolt back and release it but the hammer won't #### and release so I can't disassemble the pistol. What are my options at this point? Do I have to send it back to Ruger or can I pop a couple of pins out and save this (I was going to have to pop the pins anyway to change the parts). TC

If I'm reading this right it won't #### so you don't have to worry about releasing it. You should just be able to open up the main spring housing and disassemble normally. Alternatively you should be able to open the main spring housing and shake the hammer back into the position it should be in. Also I'm basing this off a MK III, not sure if the main spring housing is that much different but it shouldn't be as all the internals are the same.

If things get really FUBAR you can try pulling all the pins and shaking stuff out of the way until you get the barrel off. That approach however may cause issues due to springs being involved and cause further damage. It should be used only as a very last desperate resort.

I did this once and it took me a while to figure out what to do to fix it...

Turn the gun upside down, pull the trigger and then you should be able to take it apart again. (If it's the same thing that happened to me)

Search YouTube "22/45 dingle berry and the cheese" for great assembly instructions you will not forget .. Video by meanmigual

If the main spring lever will not open more than 1/4 inch you need to get the hammer to fall forward .. You do this by holding the trigger open and banging the barrel downward on a soft piece of wood till you hear it click , or you hit the back of the unit with a rubber hammer while holding it barrel down and depressing the trigger .. You are listening for a click as the hammer falls forward .. Then the lever will open the main spring .. Will not take a lot of force .. Gun is tough .. Confirm on YouTube if you think this is to harsh .. New gun and I am telling you to bang it on wood .. You must think I am nuts ...

Congrats on taking the plunge re mods ...

Follow the dingle berry rule when assembling...

I can move the mainspring housing a bit but that bolt stop pin will not budge even with pretty good wacks with a nylon hammer. The other possiblity is it is cocked and won't release. Thanks for the replies. TC

I did the old pull the trigger and bang the muzzle a bit on my work bench and voila the mainspring housing came right out and I could dissassemble the pistol. However when I put it back together (properly this time) it won't #### and fire so either a spring or piece is bent or broken. I found a good troubleshooting site that mentions this problem as well and I will look into it next. thanks very much for your help :D TC
