best rifle for under 2500

Been looking at the remington 700 xcr with b and c stock, heard savages were better, what would you guys recommend? I'm thinking .308 for ammo cost.
 
Just get any decent rifle and throw a Krieger or similar barrel on it with a sightron scope.
You cant loose.

Or just get a Sako varminter and keep the factory barrel.
 
What are you primarily going to be using the rifle for? Is $2500 just for the rifle, or would that included scope and rings?
 
Tikka Tactical, uses the same barrel as the nearly 4k Sako TRG can upgrade later with a TRG trigger and stock. Very sub MOA factory rifle. underrated.
 
get a custom rem made for that, model 700. a lot of gunsmiths will guarantee .5 moa. new barrel true action trigger job and bed action. look for a used model 700p with an hs stock for a donor then u get the action and hs stock.
 
I agree with Toller! wow really? How can you be happy with anybodies response, when you havent given us any details for what the rifle will be used for? Even more surprised that guys made suggestions on firearms, also with out knowing what it will be used for. Best rifle for what?? Black missions out of country? Hunting?...hunting what kind of game, and from where Canada or Africa? Precision Shooting, what discipline? Cash on hand for rifle and optics, and dont forget the price of ammo! Sorry dude, just playing the devils advocate. Love to help, we just need more details to the mission specifics, and Im sure you will get lots of detailed good advice here from everyone.

well the simple fact thats its in the precision forum not the hunting forum kind of leads on to the fact that its not going to be a primary hunting rifle, the fact hes asking leads us to believe that his not some private sector security member, and he asked for best rifle, NOT best rifle scope combo for 2500.... using these simple facts, we can guess that hes after a target rifle

Cooper. Buy it and shoot, no mods or tinkering necessary. Look at Clays (prophet rivers) site with pics of the guns/calibers avail, either sporter or heavy barrelled rigs are avail for under $2500.
