How is your scope mounted?

Hence why I was surprised. I probably won't be able to recreate this grouping ever again. Luck maybe? I'm comfortable with accepting that as an explanation.

The sight is mounted on a railed dust cover.
 
That is a nice group, I doubt you could do better with a Russian. I don't think they are as accurate as the Chinese.

I think your scope mount will give you a hard time after taking it off to clean the rifle.

I have found these work perfectly.

OP, your SKS is a Chinese Military Surplus one, the quality of those rifles is very much under rated. It's also from the original non-Russian SKS factory (26) probably built on Russian equipment, before it wore out - by 1968, those guys knew what they were doing.
 
Yes I'm definitely going to change the placement of the sight. I noticed that the dust cover wasn't the most stable base. I made sure everything was nice and tight after every shot. How did you mount that optic on the front sight?

How long is one of your yards?

Did you buy a lottery ticket?

If your rifle will do that again, you are an excellent shot with very good ammo and one of the best SKS in the world.

It's an SKS scout mount from B.C. Tactical Solutions.

BTW it's the rear sight.

I can't wait to test my Yugo SKS M59/66A1 with reloaded ammo and scope again this spring. If it can print a good group close to yours I'll be very happy.
 
I believe it. My sks-D would shoot 3-4moa on irons at 100 ... I regret selling it but man do people ever like to pay stupid amounts or them.. Any of my current Russians won't touch that.. Maybe 6moa... Maybe
 
I put a scope on my Russian SKS and with a bipod I find I can shoot about a 3-4" group at 200 yards for about the first 20 rounds then it opens up to pie plate accuracy. That's shooting the wooden green crate ammo-Czech?

Lucky guy who bought that one! They are underrated for guns for sure, but I have yet to achieve the grouping the OP has, much yet shoot as well as a nice Mauser out to 400 yards!!! Nice shooting OP, welcome to the SKS world!!
 
My old Russian Tula 1950 would do about 3-4" groups at 100 meters with irons and that was using quality non surplus commercial ammo.

I sold her. Reading all these threads makes me want to get a Chinese beater SKS at their current peices lol

My locker always looked a little empty since the SKS left.

Definitely going to be pulling apart some surplus and reloading........just to see :)
 
Thanks guys. To be honest I couldn't believe it when I saw the group either. Keep in mind that prior to that session, I had minutely cleaned every millimeter of the rifle with Q-Tips lol. I was also shooting in a stable, seated position with a good rest, and took forever between shots. I did notice a much wider spread afterwards. I averaged roughly 3.5 MOA. Next time I'll take it further and see how it performs. After reading about so many of you who have sold their rifle and regretted it, I think I'll hang on to this one though.
 
SevenDeuce: You might want to get the previous owners load data. I've fired a lot of surplus ammo out of my russians and it comes nowhere close to that tight of a group. I'd give some credit to the previous owner for working up, what looks to be, a really nice load for your gun.
