Ok, so my licence is on the way.... finally!!!

I use glock 22 for work 40cal. Good gun but want to stick with 9mm for various reasons, ie longevity of the pistol and cheaper ammo.

So with that said, I have narrowed it down to 3 firearms for my small collection. I will eventually have all three but for now I am going to order one to start.

So with that said, what would you rather and why. I have played with them and like the feel of all so that a side if you were in my shoes what option and why for start out????

Sig p226 enhanced elite?

M&P 9 and Glock 17 gen 3?

the 226 is about the cost of the other 2 so one to start if I grab the p226.

I have been reading so much these days, and it seems like a sound investment with the sig, perhaps I will start with that and order a glock through police distributor for discount rate. Does that sound good?

M&P 9, IMO it is the best combat handgun you can buy. It has all the advantages of the Glock and fixes its disadvantages. he only thing that could be improved is the trigger and if you want to do that you can install the APEX duty carry trigger which is awesome.

Don't get me wrong, sigs and glocks are good guns but the M&P is just better.

If you have a Glock for work, I'd be inclined to have a very nice pistol for play (not that glocks aren't nice, flame suit on!) so it would be a Sig for me. You said you would get them all eventually anyway, start with the nicest one.

If you carry a Glock for work then it only makes sense to have one to train with, if thats what your getting it for, to enhance your abilities. Otherwise, I have had both and eventually sold the Sig, for a variety of reasons. It was 100 percent reliable, I had no issues with it that way, but the downsides for me were the very high bore axis, and the placement of the slide stop lever. My thumb touched it when using a high grip and caused it to fail to lock back on empty atleast half the time, my issue I know, but It wasnt something I wanted to change, I use the same grip to shoot my other guns, Glocks and 1911's. The fit and finish on the Sig's are no better than Glock, a lot of people are enamored because its all steel, but its not executed any better, and Sig has had long running issues with QC that are well documented. In the end your going to choose what you like, but the Glock would be my first purchase and most used if I were you.

I have the Glock and the Sig. I shoot my son's M&P 9. My friend you really can't go wrong with either.

The Sig has a more traditional DA/SA feel I was used to for many years with older S&W series guns 439/459 etc, the Glock,...well there's nothing bad I can say about this platform, and the M&P is a real contender in a modern no-nonsense carry/duty type pistol. Practical fully safe holstered, fully ready when drawn.

You say you use the 22 at work, then the 17 will be a great practical training enhancement for your work gun, sans the flip.

You got it narrowed down pretty well indeed, a hard choice for sure. As regards to the SIG226, I'm liking the looks of the Nork NP-22, might be an in expensive way to try the SIG route, you will surely recover 90% of your investment should you proceed to the real McCoy 226. When funds start flowing here again I'm buying a Nork NP-22 just to compare to my 226 and shoot the pants off it.

wow thanks for all of the great replies. I am trying to justify in my head the purchase. These reviews are all excellent but so different.

I have had a sig on hold for 3 months as this is what I really wanted. They are so hard to find, and when I did, I put the deposit down right away. I am really thinking that all 3 is the way to go.

Glock for work practice
m&p because it looks soooo good
p226 because I use to shoot a 229 for work and love the quality of sig.

I may just tack on the m&p when I order the sig as the dealer I am going with has both in stock for me.

The police deal for the block will be in May so that will give me some time, to hide some funds to make that purchase as well.

keep the opinions coming please, this is really starting to help

1911...

Sorry I had to. Sig would be my choice. I own an M&P9 and i wanna like it but I don't. Glocks are basically the same except uglier. My friend has a sig and its a treat. It looks good, shoots well and feels nice in the hand.

Get the SIg with the long heavy but smooth trigger. I will make you enjoy the M&P/Glock more. You will also have a pretty good idea what high wages and taxes have to do with the price of an otherwise dated designed handgun.

Take Care

Bob

well that enhanced elite comes with an srt trigger factory installed. It is suppose to be a great upgrade option, hence the reason I went with enhanced elite.

I just called the store and had them place an m&p 9 range kit on hold as well. May just pull the trigger on both!!! oh god, mrs. bosco aint gonna be happy.
