Looking at picking up the Nightforce 20MOA base for the Rem700 Short Action, and NightForce rings. I will be pairing it with a Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50mm.

Looking for any information from someone who has a similar setup, particularly what rings you are using with the scope and base combo. I am thinking mediums would be appropriate but figured I would seek out some feedback first. Obviously looking for as close to the bore as possible

With a 50mm objective you can use the .885" rings on the NF base.
This is a nice low package....I use the same set up on my Remmys.
There are some cheaper options, but I'm very happy with the NF mounts.

I agree: .885" for a 50mm on a NF base. The scope clearance will be fine with just about any contour equal or below the typical heavy varmint.

Good choice on the ultralite rings. They are amazing. Wait until you have them in your hands. It's mind boggling how light they are. The quality is impressive as well. I haven't considered another company's rings since buying my first pair of NF's.

The rail is also fine. It has all the typical features found in a quality rail: Extended front, cut out for the port, and a recoil lug. Although I wish they would make an ultralite version of it. Aluminum or titanium. I'd pay the extra.

Great gear can't go wrong with NF. I however prefer NEAR mfg, Alberta made and the quality cannot be compared to anything else on the market IMO.

buy with confidence, but make sure you check that the base is straight before mounting the scope, I had to bed mine as there was an ever so slight dip over the ejection port.

I have that same base, but went with Badger rings of .885" height there's a pretty sizeable gap left under the objective too...

Badger makes lower rings than NF. Try the Badger Standards at .823" if you want the scope a bit lower. They make aluminum ring as well that should be similar weight to the NF ULs.

Seems like good advice here. Im using the same 20moa sa base. My scope has a 56 obj lens so i opted for the badger rings which are the 1inch ones for the 34mm tube. I have about 2 to 3mm clearence on the base rails to turret. Couldnt ask for better.

I did have to bed the rear of the base to eliminate the gap.

x2.

I have NF rings and a Kyle Precision 20 moa base as at the time the dealer I purchased the NF from did not have the bases I needed in stock.
IIRC, my rings are mediums on my Remington Varmint. But I don't mind these at all as my bolt has good clearance past the eyepiece during manipulation. A 1/4" gap between my 56mm objective and the barrel.

I've got a couple of sets of NF rings and quite like them. Plus you can mount a Defensive Edge ACI/ACD on the NF rings sets and they're a slick little unit.
