Hello all,

My heart is set on adding a 1911 handgun to the collection. I have a 9mm CZ Shadow for my big bang moments, but want a 1911 style for economic plinking.

I am very motivated to buy a GSG, but want to at least get feedback on possibly a 45acp and do an exchange kit with the 22lr. I'm not interested in a Norinco, but would consider other options or ideas.

Currently, Wolverine Supplies is featuring a SAM Military 1911 .45 ACP 5" for $440.00. Would an exchange kit fit this frame? What costs or availability is there for this idea?
It would offer another caliber size to my safe but give me options too.

Arma-Coat has their Sig deal with the exchange kit, but the price (though very good) is more that I was hoping so spend.

Your input is appreciated.
 
Personally I would just buy the pistol, then do not have to worry about proper fitting and function. Plus the new tan color gsg is awesome!
 
For the price, buy the complete pistol. Blueline has been very good in supporting this pistol. Very efficient in dealing with replacement parts from a small screw to a complete assembly. I heard, finish is better than the previous ones. A friend bought one few weeks back. He now has about 500 rds and the finish looks holding up. Mine was 2nd gen, and after replacing the guide rod, the only problem is being picky with ammo which is common to .22 cal. Should you decide to get one, stick with copper plated ammo (Federal 525, CCI Minimag, Winchester 555/525/333).

GSG in your hands for $400...why screw around with conversion kits when you can have an entire gun for less cash ...and generally easier to sell a gun than a kit

I have the Ruger sr1911 and also wanted something that was similar to it but l could also fire a cheaper round. l just bought another gun and now l don't have to worry about tearing it down to convert it over from .45 to .22. lts nice to have another gun anyway. Besides the conversion kits are pretty well the same price as buying a .22 pistol
