Custom 1911

Hi all,
Finally got my 1911 to where I want it. I purchased it from another CGNer a couple of months back. This is my first and hopefully not last. Anyways, thought I'd share.
Here it is when I first received it:

I apologize for the quality of the photo, I wasn't able to find my camera.
It is a Caspian Arms slide and frame with a Les Baer match barrel. The grips are Hogue Extreme Series Aluminum Wood Hybrid Grips. Wilson Combat slide stop and extended Mag release. The bushing compensator is a no name as far as I know and yes, I realize it does very little other than look appealing (to my eyes)

You may want to consider that unless you're very luck and that funky fake compensater bushing fits fantastically correctly that you just cost that gun a good share of its accuracy. Typically a match grade barrel is fitted to a tight match grade bushing that is then custom fitted to the slide for the optimum control over any play in order to obtain the best possible accuracy.

A Caspian frame and slide combined with a well fitted Les Baer barrel and bushing would be VERY nice to start with. You've got two highly respected names together in one handgun. Very little you do will result in anything but a downgrade.

Well I never even thought of that and now feel rather silly and never realized how quickly I could remove a barrel bushing.

I'm strongly with the others in far and away preffering the first photo. But I'm strongly traditionalist on these things. On the other hand it's YOUR gun so if you like it then that's all that counts.

Checking the performance of the new bushing/fake compensator and comparing it to the match bushing is easy. Just shoot the gun in both configurations. If you're a decent shot the difference in accuracy should be instantly seen in the group sizes. If you're not so good you won't see much or any difference. Shooting from a wrist rest would/should enhance YOUR steadiness and accuracy and make any difference between the two bushings easier to spot.

There's also a possible outcome where the funky looking bushing compensator turns out to shoot as good as the original. If so then you can decide on which you want to use with a clear conscience. But if I'm right and the original bushing turns out to be a better shooting option then you need to decide on looking good (in YOUR mind at least :D) to shooting good.

I'm glad to see you're having fun.
If you like it,that's all that counts.
I'm pretty traditional and I think the gun in its original configuration is really nice looking.
I bet it's a nice shooter too.
 
Hey Tao, hope you like it. Personally I liked it before better too but really it's not about what I like or what anyone else likes. That's the beauty of 1911's is that you can set them up any way you like. And you're the one who shelled out the cash so you're the only one that matters. As far as accuracy if it shoots good for you great. If not you might want to consider putting the Les Baer barrel back in.

The bottom line, go out and shoot it and have some fun.
 
As the OP said it is his first 1911, it may not be most of us want to see but it is a man's toy, as long as he enjoy it, the meaning of toys is all about it.

Hey all thanks for the feedback positive or not.
Personally I don't enjoy stainless guns myself but for some reason I felt compelled to "pimp it out" as a few have put. Anyways, can't please em all, although I do enjoy the wood inlays a lot. I should mention I got the grips because I wanted something I havent seen on any other pistol but have been wondering if it's too much shiny. However at 130 shipped from the states I've been hesitating on something else for the immediate future. I would love to see the same grips but with a blued finish opposed to the polished aluminum.
I assure you though, the rest of my classics are more, well, classic.
I'll definitely have to try the original bushing and the crappy comp, still waiting on my ATT so I can get some range time. Just don't have the extra bucks on hand right now for a true compensator, too many projects.
