An old lever action that won`t break the bank????

I`m dying to own one. Why? Who knows why, just one day I thought: I`m gonna have me one of those dem der lever ma jigs". So, now the process begins. What is a Browning like? I own a semi-auto Marlin Model 70 (absolutely love it), what is a marlin lever like? I have no clue and need help.
Now is when I get my arse handed to me....ok, I`m a big boy...I can handle it: I am only wanting to spend upwards of $200. Maybe $225, anything more than that...I`d have to unleash the heard I have to cover funds. Darcy
 
the Browning has a short throw so does the Marlin. Pretty tough to find them used at lower price. I suggest you go with the new Mossberg or the Henry at your price market. :) Try to find the Winchester 150 or 250 it is available at what you want to pay.

If I had to get rid of one of my semi auto`s...I would. So I think top dollar would be closer to around the $350-$450.
 
Get the economic Henry new i think it is like $275 ish. or wait out on a used one they are out there. goodluck. i do not suggest you selling your guns, you bought them to enjoy and you will miss them.

If anyone has Remington Nylon 76 lever action do not be afraid to contact me, love to add another one to the heard.

What Caliber ?-----> what are you going to use it for ?
Sass or Cowboy shooting require different Cal/ model than if you are going to use it for hunting or Hunting PAPER only

Well, since this is the RIMFIRE Forum.... I think it's pretty safe to figure he's asking about a .22.

In the OP's budget range, you are pretty much looking at a used Henry, and probably a bit beat up one, at that.

Maybe one of the less popular 'modern' style lever guns as made by several different makers. Grab a couple old Gun Digest editions, and peruse the levergun lists. Winchester, Marlin, Colt, Iver Johnson, Ruger and a couple others, all made leverguns with tube or box mags that were in the more modern style, and they didn't sell well, if that gives you any ideas.
Pretty much all the stuff that is still being produced is of the 'classic' style, as it sells pretty well.

Save yer money and buy something nice, if ya gotta have new. Shop carefully, if buying used, and you can dig up some pretty decent bargains. I think I would shop the used market if I were looking for a lever right now.

FWIW, the Winchester 9422, and the Browning BL22 both have very short fast lever throws, not really requiring you to unhook your thumb from the stock unless you have very small hands. The Marlin 39, definitely does not have a short throw. The Browning trigger travels with the lever, no pinch point if the gopher rush you and you really need the rapid fire! :)

I would agree the Henry is what you should go with. maybe save up another 100 ontop and get the mares leg if that tickles your fancy, be sure to get a sheath with it aswell :p i would buy the mares leg new.

if you are really tight on funds Norinco has 2 models to pick from and than there is Chiappa. I have no experience with them tho... so do your research.

once you shoot a lever 22 you will fall in love with them, hence why you do not find them on the used market... semi 22s are a dime a dozen, no one wants to get rid of there lever ;)

if you really want to break the bank, hunt down one of these : ruger lever 22, Henry golden boy or Marlin Mountie commemorative. you will be the envy of the boys at the range.
 
Wow thanks Trevj and crosman177!!! I think what I`m after would be a nice project even if it takes me a year to finish it to superb quality as long as it is a functional shooter when I get it ot needs very little work to get it functional. I`m leaning more along the lines of something that is already worth something and will only increase.
I have the 3 crosman177 mentioned, marked down. Yes, I can picture the "short throw" ones. I don`t think I would want one that needs to be fully cocked if you know what I mean.Thanks, Darcy
 
If you really want an inexpensive but quality lever action .22, the get the Henry basic H001... It is an excellent gun for the money.
