CSA vz58 5.56 Norinco FAIL

Had a case separation with a Norinco .223 cartridge in my CSA vz58 .223 19".

Not sure if this is the best forum to post this on but I figured Canada Ammo has sold millions of rounds of this stuff and lots of you guys have had plenty of experience with it.

My question is, have any of you seen or heard of this before and do you think it's an issue with the Chinese brass or an issue with the CSA chamber.

Background on the rifle is , bought it new last December and took it out once that year and shot 80 rounds of American Eagle AR 223 through it without any issues. Rifle cycled through all 80 with no failures. Rifle was dissasembled and cleaned before that first shoot and right afterwards.

I got an ammo can of the Norinco 223 last week from Canada Ammo and went out to the range yesterday to see how the gun runs with it. This was the rifles second time out shooting.

Chamber and bore were clean and dry before the shoot.

I shot 10 rounds of the AE223 first. Switched over to the Norinco ammo and shot one full box of 20 with no issues. Decided to switch back to the AE 223 to compare muzzle flash , grouping etc. When I released the bolt, it picked up the first round of AE and stopped about 1/2" out of battery.
Tried to pull the carrier handle back but it was jammed in tight. Took quite a while but I finaly got it to come back and found that the last round of Norinco had saparated and left the front 3/4" of the brass inde the chamber. The AE round was jammed tight into the Norinco brass. Pictures below. Looking at the edges of the split brass they don't seem to have any powder residue just a clean break. The case neck had quite a thick powder residue that maybe stuck the case in the chamber and then the bolt ripped the case in half on the way back. I picked up a buch of the other empty brass and couldn't see the same residue on any of them whether AE or Norinco. Unfortunately there were 3 other guys around me shooting both the Norinco 223 and AE with their AR's so it was hard to determine where the brass came from.
I shot 10 rounds of the AE after getting the stuck case out and checking the chamber and they functioned fine.

I think you'd get more attention on this issue if you posted it in the General Discussion forum.

In your case, I'd rather suspect the ammo than the gun, but I'd have a very careful look at the gun's chamber too. If there's something wrong in the chamber, it should be relatively easy to spot. However every big lot of ammo is liable to have a few duds...

did you see that edge on the brass whne you loaded the round?

I have had no problems with my norinco 223, had 2 warped caseings out ofthe 5000 or so norinco .45 ive shot, but I have had 3 from remmington in about 3000 rounds.

such things happen when making something en masse

I absolutely will not use Norinco after having problems with it in all of my rifles. Primer took a solid whack but didnt ignite, racked the rifle to eject the round and the bullet case, tip and powder literally all fell out of the rifle in separate components. It did this with all three of my rifles on separate occasions.

ive fired over 1000 rounds of norinco 7.62x39 in a mix of SKS and VZ58 and non one has failed in any way. Its pretty clean stuff (not as clean as american made factory ammo) but much cleaner than surplus. Every time i pulled the lever things went boom.

I have same issue with my csa 7.5. Changed to MFS, issue is still there. Sent csa for service now. No feedback yet.

So does the 19" CSA have a .223 or 5.56 chamber?

I only shot about 200 norinco rounds, had 1 FTF recently, bad primer

I'm having the same problem. New 5.56 vz 58 bought in December, using Norinco .223 ammo. I get about 15-18 good rounds out of a box of 20. The rest either rupture or fail to fire. I've contacted CSA direct and they've advised me that it is either the ammo or the headspace on the rifle. They put me in touch with their Canadian warrant rep to have the rifle checked. As soon as I clear the current piece of ruptured brass out of the barrel I plan to try some other types of ammunition to see if the problem persists. If it does, I will be sending it out for warrant work.

I've had that problem, the bullet being pushed into the shell, But it was with Winchester factory ammo and an AR-15.

it did it multiple times, changed the ammo, never happened again.

I't could just be luck of the lot. /i don't really think its a rifle issue but the round to blame. again different rifle but I put Hornady, Norinco, MFS, and federal through the rifle and winchester brand was the only one that did that.

Ya I'm going to get the headspace checked but I thought case separations due to to excesive headspace were usualy down in the head area and not up near the shoulder.
