I am shocked! :)
The fit, finish and wood of Russian ones are better, but Chinese sks seem to group better.
I expected it to be the reverse, but i shot them back to back and it seems like Chinese SKS groups better.

Any of you, guys, who own both did you have the same experience?
I am very curious to know if my experience was an anomaly or not.

I have no issues hitting metal targets at 400yds with my Chinese sks, I've done a lot of upgrades like stock, scope mount and scope, it's a great shooting rifle now, and very cheap to shoot and have fun with.

I have seen the reverse.[Soviet better than Chi-Com] My friend who will not buy a computer did buy a Russian SKS. As far as I could tell, it was new. Has the manufacture date of 1953 on the dust cover. Using the Norinco steel case ammo, he shot some pretty tight groups compared to my Chi-Com SKS. I have heard that the Bulgarian SKS's shoot exceptionally well, with the Russian ones being next.....

What kind of Chi-Com do you have? I think maybe Chinese SKSs got bad reputation because of the once made for civilian market, i have heard the quality was atrocious, a friend of mine told me that his would not shoot. The military ones on the other hand seem to be a different story.

The pinned SKS56 is a known better shooter compared to the SKS45 on average. The Yugos are also known to outshoot the others.

I have read on the net the same thing - pinned barrels supposed to be more accurate, but not because they are pinned but because they are newer and better made - this is what people are saying. After all i think VZ is made the same way, i don;t if it is pinned but it is pressed into reciever just like pinned SKSs.

I find it depends allot on the condition of the SKS ie used vs new. New tends to win because it's not worn out or used as much. Chromelined vs non chormelined barrels the non chrome ones tend to out shoot the chrome lined ones because you lose accuracy with a chrome barrel so if you want to shoot surplus go chrome lined if you want a tack driver go non chromed barrel if you have a choice.

In conclusion its just luck of the draw if yours is accurate or not. It's down to many factors, better then average barrel( kind of like how some Mosins shot better then other right out of the factory), better then average machining of the trigger group parts( smooth almost crisp trigger) and not built as loose and a good fitting stock, ammo quality but above all the shooters skill.

My Chinese threaded on barrel and blade bayonet SKS will hit the rams on the 500m silhouette range. Doesn't knock them over unless the hit is in the upper half of the ram but it does hit them and with iron sights. Can't say I've tired to group it on paper but I wouldn't want to face anyone that was shooting one at me.

I wasn't going for grouping on paper, I was just going for the "ding" off a metal target, that's males me happy enough with my sks

Please, when you say that "my Chinese sks was not grouping well" it would help to know what kind of Chinese sks you had. I suspect that military ones are possibly better than civilian Chinese sks. But it also possible, like people pointed out, that it is just the luck of the draw. After all this is how soviet army was choosing sniper rifles - they would try a bunch of Mosin rifles and a handful of them would shoot much better than the rest even though they all were made on the same assembly line.
Maybe i simply got lucky and got a sniper SKS :) Maybe i am that lucky :) Those things do happen :)
