Damn Americans

I haven't had any problems finding what I need yet. I'm pretty well stocked but I suggest looking at the less well known mom and pop shops if you're having trouble finding supplies.

I'm not a piggie and only buy what I need, some guys like to hoard though.

when the fienstien/obama/mr shoot off a double barrel shot gun/ bill goes threw. 1 it wont be near what they say or 2 it will and people will see they still have guns and they are still making ammo. and then your guna see a flood of it onsale. people panic bought. And stock piled to sell for profit once they finally do whatever it is they are going to. It will all go back to normal just like what happend after the horny presidents assault weapon ban.

I don't think you can place the entire blame on the buying public as they are doing what consumers do - consume.

Manufacturers seem to ignore the past and the benefit of hind-sight, and once again were ill-prepared to take advantage of yet another golden opportunity as this scenario also occurred, perhaps to a lesser extent, following the 2008 US presidential election.

Publicly traded companies such as Ruger for example, had stopped taking orders for a time in the spring of 2012 because they couldn't keep up with demand for their products. Why is this I ask? Why are they afraid to take on the expenditure of extra equipment or hiring of personnel especially when the demand for their products has been proven?

I appreciate that these companies have a responsibility to their stakeholders to be fiscally responsible, however, being overly cautious in business is like being too nice - it gets you nowhere in a hurry.

Sooo....you're shortage is other peoples fault for buying what they want/need?

I learned my lesson the very first time primers were a little bit hard to find. Also, I don't like tweeking/testing loads for when I get into a new lot # of powder...as a result I buy bulk of one lot #. Another bright side of that is coasting through times that powder is hard to get....

Keep searching for what you need and chalk it up as a lesson learned for next time...

people have been warning that supplies would be in short supply for month's and month's. anyone caught with out supply should have listened.

That's why I bought 20k of various primers and about 50 pounds of powder and am still in the market.

Hard for those of us just getting into reloading, and not sure of what was/is needed. Lee is completely out of a bunch of stuff I now need, that I didn't know I needed 2 weeks ago. It's not the end of the world, and is just bad timing... but it does make me wonder why the rush on things like casting molds, bullet sizers, and the like. I mean everything is going. I am not blaming people for needing or wanting stuff, but the amount and diversity of stuff disappearing is astonishing.

I guess I just picked a poor time to get into casting and reloading.

people are also buying what they can to resell for profit only, but once the supply returns there will be a bunch of stuff for sale cheap!

i just missed the boat on my 500 mag stuff for casting so now i'm waiting 2-3 weeks for crap to arrive. otherwise i have everything i need for the next 2 years or so. and even if i don't fishing is soon so i will spend less time at the range.

Preach it brother, I'm in the exact same boat. Pretty sure I can get the dies I'm looking for but primers and powder are vanishing. I don't even know what powders will work best for my firearms but I'm just buying up what I can of what my manual suggests. I haven't even made a single round yet. I knew buying what I wanted was going to cost some money, I just wasn't anticipating buying as much as I did as quickly as I did out of fear of if I waited to much longer, I may not find what I need. And I'm far from done :(

I have 2 pounds each of Power Pistol, IMR-3031 & IMR-4064. I hope it they work ok, lol.

UR2X3M4ME;8436833 Also why I got 10K small pistol primers. [/QUOTE said:
Sitting on 20k of small pistol primer.

Im fortunate to have 5k on small for my 9mm...

See above... and you blame Americans!

Also, don't forget who is MAKING all of the products that you are hot to buy.

Think about the millions of US gun owners with .223's or tactical rifles (so deemed by legislative morons in NY, CA etc...) Our fellow shooting enthusiasts stateside are worried that the sport they are passionate about (as passionate as we are), is about to change forever... and have far reaching negative impacts on their Second Ammendment rights...

Also, don't forget that this same thing happened 4-5 years ago... there wasn't a primer to be found... after the fear reaction dies down, the products will be there... it is simple economics... supply and demand.

Ah....IC. You quoted me so I thought you were reffering to me. I'm sure you can understand the confusion. But at the end of the day, the OP is correct. American purchases have far more impact on market availablity than us. Outnumbering us 10-1 will have that affect.

I'm one of the "Damn Americans" and what aggravates me the most are the people buying up gun store supplies and then selling them at gun shows for extravagant prices. I can get bullets, primers and powder but it means making two or three trips a week to a gun shop to find them. All the firearms that are being talked about being banned are gone from the shelves and you have to sign up on a waiting list. There are plenty of standard hunting rifles, shotguns and a scattering of revolvers.

The second thing that aggravates me is we can't get IMR powders made in Canada.................
"Damn Canadians"

I hope all your oil sands dry up and you have to buy oil from Texas. :stirthepot2:

I hope Mike Holmes comes to your house and rips everything out even your gun cabinets. :nest:

It could be worse, they could be talking about Prohibition and we could be buying all your booze.

I hope everyone is clever enough to realize that "Damn Americans" is a little tongue in cheek. I have absolutely nothing against our American brethren, and since this is my first go around with a drought, I will know better next time... and do more to add to the drought well in advance!

"There is no ammo shortage just a bunch of #######s are buying more than they need so they can rip off other gun owners. I hope they choke on it!"
