A possible 7+1 Semi Auto shotgun?

I was wondering like how the .50 Beowulf Magazines can be legal in Canada, is it possible to have a Semi-auto shotgun to run 4-5 rounds of 3 or 3.5 inch shells but just so happens to run 6-7 2.75 inch shells in the tube?

How does the Canadian law interpret shotgun capacity? Because there are some experimental 1.5 inch shells that allow for a capacity of something like 12 in a tube.

Semi auto shotgun 5 round mag capacity is based upon the longest shell the gun is chambered for...

So, if the shotgun is a 3.5 inch chambered shotgun, u r legally allowed to stuff 'more' shorter shells into the mag tube...

If that's not clear, someone will be along shortly with better wording...

No! The max magazine capacity is 5 shells, for the longest size shell the gun is chambered for...

This is correct... I believe it's also based on what's actually written on the barrel. My Versa Max is chambered for 3.5" shells and is written on the barrel as such, so if I got a +3 extension for 3.5" shells I'll be kosher

I'm waiting for someone to chamber a barrel for 4.5" shells. Does the shell have to actually exist in order for that to fly? :p

If your semi auto is chambered in 3 inch, it can only hold up to a maximum of 5 3 inch shells in the magazine. A lot of people make it so they cap the magazine (With a permamnent dowel or something similar) to 5.9 3inch shell capacity. As long as you can't fit a 6th 3inch shell in your good to go. Now because you have capped it 5.9, you should be able to fit 6 2 3/4 inch shells inside the magazine, which is perfectly legal. You can even go futher by putting one in the chamber, and putting in a "ghost" load which makes it legal for you semi to have 8 shells of 2 3/4 ready to shoot.

Correct! And, my 15 round Kel-Tec KSG PUMP ACTION shotgun is pure awesome!!!

as if the picture wasn't enough ... just keeping rubbing it in why doncha :p

But yes, only 5 round retraction on semi autos, and like rifles it's 5 of the intended round that is was chambered in so if you can stuff in an extra short shell.. GAME ON !

Just keep in mind that if you are hunting with the shotgun, your shell limit may be less. Best to check local regulations during open season :)

Yeah i didn't mean "sure! If the versamax comes with a factory 8rnd tube then all is kosher" i was hoping the op would read the part about the versamax tact having a stamp saying 3" but the non-tact model is marked 3.5" so the tact cant hold as many 2.75" shells as the non tact model. That particular thread had some good info about what the gun is stamped for and mag capacities. But i guess nobody bothered reading it before correcting me..... Starting to remember why I lurk and don't post.

and this is why you want something chambered for 3.5" shells so you can fit 7 rounds of 2 3/4" then ghost load one and have one in the chamber so you can fire 9 rounds in one go.

This is exactly what I'm planning with the new versamax sportsman model. Should make an interesting competition gun, pending my lack of skill of course!

The S.A.T-8 is 7+1 of 2-3/4" (one shell is floating / ghost loaded) :)
It will not allow more than x5 3" shells in the mag-tube.

Nice, glad to hear... I'm also looking at upgrading my sights, shell carrier, charging handle, and bold release button as well. Currently I'm sourcing all my parts from Brownell's, they seem to be the only guys who carry all the Nordic Components accessories.
