A few questions about the Mossberg 500.

So, I've been thinking about giving my mossberg a bit of a "tactical" makeover (not a new stock or anything, I like the wood), and about the only problem I have is I can't find a shorter barrel anywhere in Canada. Does anyone know where I could get a hold of one?

The other question I have to ask is about the magazine tube. It appears long enough to hold 5, and when I disassembled it I could see no signs that it had been pinned or how the magazine capacity had been reduced to 2. How many different methods exist to limit capacity.
 
The factory 18.5" cylinder bore bead barrel is pretty common. I have one on my 500A. I bought mine from the old Lakefield factory but if you put a WTB on the EE for $125 I bet you'd get some takers.

With the Choate top folder it makes for a very small handy, lightweight gun.

The magazine is plugged for waterfowl with a small wooden dowel.

Can't think of one. You just need a small (smaller than a pencil in diameter) wooden dowel that will fit through the screw hole at the front of the magazine mount (where the barrel screws in). Cut it so that only 2 rounds fit into your magazine and Bob's your uncle.
 
You might have an aftermarket magazine plug. It will look like a quarter at the end of a pencil thin plastic shaft. You have to pull the spring right out as the spring holds it against the plug.
 
You may have to remove the tube to remove the plug, they can whore to remove but if you use a heat gun to heat the receiver up a bit right where the tube screws in. I had to do that on one of mine a few years ago, to wood plug had fouled the spring and caused feeding issues. I live for waterfowl hunting and must run a plug so I bought an after market plastic plug that was a much larger diameter than the factory wooden one. Once you get the tube off the first time you should be able to do it by hand. With some 500s you can slide the plug out of the hole at the end but I wasen't able to on mine as the spring was holding it in. If you remove the tube be careful not to bend it, I found that out the hard was. That is when I figured out a little heat goes a long way
