New AR-15 looking exactly like the M16A1

question to anyone who wants this. would you use 5/20 for the authentic look or 5/30 since you most likely already have them?

5/20 - Its suppose to be old skool.

My CAR 15 build is that way...

That's interesting, I shot with this upper for a couple of years (lefty) with .223 and .22 and I never had any issue with brass. My lack of accuracy however......

Consider yourself lucky, it isn't an experience I care to repeat.

Maybe the forward assist helped divert the cases that were flying back.

My rifle didn't have one.

I would rather just buy an old Colt SP1. Inter Ordnance does not have a good reputation.

I did my cq-311 up old school, triangular handguards, 5/20 mag, old school grip, the works. What really amazes me, is how light and ergonomic it feels. Compared to my 14.5" railed monster, with eotech, foregrip, thicker barrel, magnifier, etc., it feels like it's half the weight! It reminds you why they adopted the platform, and how revolutionary it was, at the time. My polytech m305 feels like a club in comparison.

What a disappointment it was when I traded my FN in for the C-7 in the late eighties. The heavy barrel configuration made it almost as heavy as the FN. Carry handle was no longer at the point of balance. Boy was I disappointed.
The Army always ensures that if a soldier has something light they they will quickly re-burden him. Promises of cutting the weight in the rifle or ammunition or whatever will have senior NCO's looking for ways to add things to his kit to get it back to the same old weight.
M-16A1 is used to good effect in many countries, the Philippines in particular. I'd like to have this rifle too. Were it non-restricted it would make a fine rifle for woods carry while hunting.

I would buy one of these if the price was right for sure. I love the old Vietnam-era M16 configuration! I remember seeing AR's like this all the time growing up. Brings back lots of happy memories of days gone by.

The M16A1 is probably the most gorgeous firearm ever made, and I am pretty sure it's what got me interested in guns in general because of all the Vietnam movies I watched as a lad.

I don't have my RPAL but I'm getting it soon, and I was going to get an Colt SP1 as my first restricted rifle, but if these came in and were reasonably priced, I'd look into one of them for sure. Who would be willing to bring them in?

Our best bet might be buying on gunbroker and getting IRUNGUNS to import.

A1 look is Vietnam & Vietnam is A1 look. There is simply no other substitution if you want to go AR retro. Either 5/20 & 5/30 mag would fit the classic image since both were issued to GIs in Nam.

if it could be kept to the price shown, I would get one too.

'course these would really piss off the antis, holy crap!! "THAT GUYS GOT A MACHINE GUN THAT KILLED BABYS!!!"

This is the same reason why I got ride of my "modern" AR shortly after picking up a '71 Colt SP1.
My SP1 feels just right in my hands. Brings back a lot of memories as a lad watching old Vietnam movies. I love the unique sound of the buffer spring...once I got used to it:)
I like the look of the 20rnd mags vs the 30 but I prefer the look of the "duck bill" flash hider over the "birdcage" (although it may not be correct). I'll get it installed one day....
