Exactly. Personally I like to be able to see bullet holes out to 300 so, depending on caliber, I look for a max of at least 30 and preferably higher so long as clarity isn't compromised.

For out to 350 yards,on deer or moose, you don't need a great deal of magnification. I find a 3-9x scope adequate for 500 yard shots on big game.

Nevermind "deer/moose", you're in the precision rifle forum. Anything under 30x is pointless.

Seriously, I can see my 3" target at 300yd just fine with 9x.

Who needs magnification - shoot your groups with apertures.

Get a high quality fixed 4 power.

You will appreciate good glass and a proper reticle way more than poor glass with higher magnification.

There is no issues with hitting the rams at 500 meters with a fixed 4 so deer/moose out to 350 will be no problem.
