As is normal for me, I have enough components to last at least a couple or years, with normal shooting, and longer if I ration myself a bit. However, I am already being approached by people that know me, asking me to sell them components that they can't locate for themselves. Some people actually get offended when I remind them, that I advised them many months ago to stock up while there was a dependable supply of components. I explain to them, that if I sell my stock to everyone that asks, I will soon have none. Of course each person replies that I should just sell to them, and nobody else. I expect that the situation will get much worse by late summer, and while I don't like to see people run short of components, those people really do need to change the way that they manage their components, as it seems that it is always the same people that run out, whenever there is an issue with the supply.

So true indeed. Stock up like mad during the flush months to keep a margin for the lean times.
I do believe I have about 1500 Lapua 155 Scenars and still about 330 or so Lapua unfired brass. (lots of once fired)
My high use items, along with about 1700 SK match ammo and about 5lb of Goex BP. To many here, this is nothing at all.

When this happened years ago , we all shared components here to keep shooting and I said I will never get caught like that again and as a result today am pretty much in the same position you are.
However this time it was different we all knew exactly what was going to happen and some acted accordingly while others said BS and bought nothing.
Thus they did it to themselves and you are right it is always the same ones time and time again that run out even in good times. I'm with you 100% and would not lose any sleep over it

There are a lot of reloaders out there that just can't afford to stock up.
I had one aquaintance that wanted me to sell him just enough components to fill his 20 round plastic box. Not enough for 20 complete rounds, just enough to top off the box. He had it figured out to the penny what the components were worth for 11 rounds. He did save his brass. Then he asked me to save the rest of the box of bullets so that he could purchase the rest, as he needed them and it would make his cost analysis more consistent.
I had a partial box, maybe less than 20 rounds from a lot and gave him the bullets. I wouldn't have shot them anyway. Then, I told him he had to go to the shop and buy his own powder. They have those packs with different powders in them, 4 oz of powder each. The local shop found that a lot of people were only interested in small lots of powder, so he was OK.
Then he didn't want to purchase a whole 100 count of primers. I told him they were the same price as a beer in the local suds palace.
He was such a pain in the butt, I finally told him to go to the local shop and make a deal on the components he needed there.
I don't mind including a friend in on a group buy but the nickle and dimers can pound sand.

Bearhunter , I agree some people can't afford to stock up. Im one of them, being laid off doesnt pay very well. But your friend who is scrounging for a few bullets and less than a pack of primers, they are just plain cheap. Shooting isn't cheap, if you can't at least buy ammo. Maybe look for a cheaper hobby.
Another couple of thoughts come to mind after reading this thread:
1) Poor planning on you part does not constitute an emergency on my part.....
2) You have to wonder about some people and their priorities.....
Personally, I'd be looking at keeping a stock of essentials, building it up when I could, and using up stocks if, for one reason or another, I couldn't get more.
As far as the laid off bit, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. You either cut back on discretionary / entertainment spending, or find ways to partake in the hobby for less money.
If it was a case of a buddy needed some component in a hurry, or just wanted a few to try out, I could be inclined to help out.

Sometimes that is impossible. Many like us in NS far away from the big suppliers in Ontario do bulk purchases yearly with their clubs so everyone gets to see what comes in and for who normally.
On the no money know that feeling real well but also know if I miss the bulk order I am screwed for a year so some poor gun or guns that I hated to sell would be sold off to keep shooting.
Also as an option to the guys out of components is to check at the club for members that have stopped shooting for many reasons. There is always a batch of those guys and many will sell what they have or make a deal to take their stuff and you replace it at a later date since they don't need it right now.
Some you may know well and your word is good others want you to leave something of equal value that is returned when you replace their components.Seen that done here many times

When I lived up north I was very involved in the local rifle & pistol club.
Being friends with most of the regular's it wasn't a big deal to phone a buddy up and see what they had that you needed.
Anyone remember the primer shortage a few years ago? I ran out of Fed 215M's. One phone call to a buddy and I had 2000 in my mitts in the time it took to drive to his house.
I can remember giving up 6.5 and 8mm bullets, 300 H&H brass, sets of dies, powder, etc.
It all comes out in the wash with good friends.
As for someone telling me that I HAVE to sell to them because I have an excess is the guy being a jerk.

If you can't afford to pay you can't afford to play. I have a reasonably good selection of components I have collected over the years,but there are many things I do not have, like a formula 1car, or a race horse, or a membership at a fancy country club, or a new truck every year, or a host of other luxuries. None of these are considered to be human rights, neither is shooting. I pay the bills and support the family. If there is no money to play with I am thankful for what I do have. There, I will climb off the soap box now.....

I wasn't an a_hole at that time so I did it.Then I thought to myself, hmmmmmmm, his hip is fine and you didn't visit her during all the daylight hours.Same fellow , my father gave him a bunch of empties for deposit returns, they got returned right into the slots at the casino, the customer casino shuttle showed up shortly after he received the empties.
Ok, I feel better now and still have all my components!

I was up country and saw some bullets at the local shop so I picked them up, felt a little bad though since I've got a dozen stores to choose from around home and those guys have 2 or a 100+km drive to anywhere else. Then again I won't run out cause I bought them when I saw them.
Seems like time to get some more primers though since I'm halfway through the stack I bought during the last shortage. But seriously at $6/100 gouger price who can't afford a
hundred? They'd better not smoke or drink in my mind. Over 100 rds of 30-06 from a lb of powder. Save up the $40. Seriously.
This is just a taste of what would happen if those guys found out you won the Super 7 LOL
