People Asking Me To Sell Them Components

There's a very few guys that I would sell a bit too, and they would/have done the same for me. These aren't guys that were too cheap or broke to stock up; its just that nobody can anticipate every possible need everytime.

For the most part, people are on their own.

I overheard a friend of mine, a Dr. say to a patient who called him at home on the weekend needing urgent treatment for an injury that occured earlier in the week,
"since when did your laziness turn into my emergency?"

Stubble, I really think you have every right to use this on the guys wanting you to bail them out. they can find what you have, they are just going to have to spend the time you did looking for it, and the money you did buying it. Their problem is not your problem, plain and simple. I used to see it their way, but then I grew up.

Plan ahead is all you can do. When I go to bigger cities, I asked my friends - do they need to pick up anything? We all have the usual request. However, some of the popular components have a long wait so we place a fair size order with a board member. To our surprise, the order was ready in a month for shipping. I lived through the shortage last time. I will try to avoid that if it is possible this time.

I don't feel the slightest bit guilty about having components when other people that were told to stock up, didn't heed my advice, and have run short. I just wondered how many other people were dealing with the same issue.

In most cases the same people who are always short of stuff are the same ones who always can find smokes or never miss a night at the bar.

If they don't have stuff to shoot with and you do then it sucks to be them.

Sounds like Whimpy......."I'll pay you Tuesday for a hambouyger today"......
I have learned a long time ago to never lend money to someone looking for a loan.
If they don't have it now, they won't have it later.
Same with ammo and other chit.
A polite "no" should suffice.

There are very few people that I would help out with components, only 2 or 3 of my closest shooting buddies would ever be considered with that sort of generosity. Buy them while you can or it's your problem later.

I would be okay with trading components but not outright selling stuff to guys.

This.

Like-for-like trades are commerce. Value is set at the traders' discretion. "Could you sell me something I can't get?" is a question always best answered with "No."

ETA: I have offered on occasion to buy a small quantity of something to see if I could cook up a good load before buying larger quantities, or traded for such. Among a small circle of friendly GN's, we would likely give these quantities freely.

I'm not worried about the shortages because I have enough for years of shooting... decades if I ration it... and not because I stocked up for the current supply "slowdown" (can't call it a drought because there are still plenty of components to be had)... I always stay well supplied as a general prinicple... but eventually, first to go for me will be powder, then primers, then bullets and finally brass... but after the powder runs out, the rest lasts forever... you're only as good as your "weakest link."

Tell them the story about the grasshopper and the ant.....;).......

.....and "The Little Red Hen". These childhood storiescould benefit the childlike who think that you "have to" share what you wisely stored up, and the many who think that you can't sell something to them for more than you paid.

I need a grown up here! :p

They don't tell the story of the story of the grasshopper and the ant, or the little red hen any more. Nobody says "the world doesn't owe you a liveing" anymore either. Ever notice that? Political opportunists have long realized that they can secure their positions by promiseing the grasshoppers what they want, and take it from the ants with impunity.

Myself and a couple of friends often give small quantities of components back and forth for testing purposes. We also trade larger amounts that we no longer require. That hasn't changed, even with the shortages.

I never sell components even in times of plenty, I just buy more. I too have a small circle of friends like Why Not? (Ted) that we are all willing to share components and dies but it is a small circle indeed. There are also no "one siders" in this circle it is all pretty equal. We all have huge quantities of most stuff but a new rifle may bring a new need which our LGS will not have, guaranteed.
I had an acquaintance call me up and request the lend of my 243 dies to which I denied, he became downright belligerent and demanding as though it were his God given right to borrow my dies. I don't recall exactly what I said to him (actually I do) but let's just say he did not get the use of my dies, nor did he ever feel the need to call me again, ever............a grasshopper in all aspects of life!!

The thing about communists is that the ones who wish to share the collectives' wealth and chattels are the same ones coming to the table with their hands out rather than offering to add to the supply.

Same here. I did not supplies to turn around and sell them to others............regular shooters are aware of the current situation. I will not let my stock of components be compromised by those who did not stock up. One thing we are doing in my area to keep sharp is do a lot more rimfire shooting. At worst, keep your centrefire ammo or components for hunting purposes, and use rimfires for practice. .
