Pinned Mag.

Not too much makes sense when it comes to firearm laws, but I think there way have been some logic to this one. Anyone know?

They are probably unsure of the Canadian laws and pinned them just in case, if its for a bolt action then i dont see why you couldn't just take it out.

they use AK-47 mags, the 7.62x51 AIA rifles use a proprietary mag that happens to fit other rifles, so they are allowed 10

Precisely. The AIA 7.62x39 Magazines are AK47 single-stack magazines, and not proprietary bolt-action magazines. Obviously the AK47 is, at minimum, a semi-automatic rifle, and therefore limited to five round magazine capacity.

I think some other helpful forum member once stated this conundrum best, and this stuck with me:

Up here, the magazines are capacity regulated, not the firearms themselves.

So to rephrase what was said above, if this rifle were to use some proprietary magazine made for a bolt action 7.62x39, and is different enough that it isn't designated an "AK-47 magazine", then you wouldn't be limited to 5 rounds. The key is what firearm(s) the magazine was originally intended to be used in, as manufactured.

No, it doesn't make sense....

The Kalashnikov rifle that the magazine design was copied from is a Prohibited fire-arm of the ‘safe queen’ variety. No person who owns one, with the proper endorsement on their licence, is permitted to take it out of the house, load a live round in it, transport it to an Approved Range, or shoot it, now and for ever.

Even so, the laws as pertain to magazines mean that mag.s of that design must be limited to holding five rounds. Even though the basis of that particular restriction is, for all intents and purposes, a non-firing display piece.

So it makes sense, but it doesn't. Get it?

I got a AIA in 7.62x39 why do they pin the mag to only 5 rounds,
I don't get it you can have an Enfield that holds 10 and both rifles are bolt action
.
Ron:confused:

Accept that firearms are not limited to any number of rounds, it's only the magazines that are limited, and you will no longer be confused.
