I am presently working in a Camp in Northern Alberta. A wolverine was spotted in the same area for 2 days, so I thought I would check it out. I walked in a decent trail for about 50 yards, and noted an old moose or caribou kill under about 2 feet of snow. This thing dug holes underneath it to get as much meat as he could. So I set my Trail Cam near the kill site.

Today, I checked it. The wolverine walked in at 0254 hrs, and actually slept by the kill site until 0613hrs. this morning. The camera actually snapped about 350 pictures, mostly him tossing around in his sleep. I guess they "do" protect their food supply. I have attached 3 pics (hope they come out) when he walked in.

I got thinking later...he was probably hiding and watching me while I set up the camera yesterday afternoon...hehe.

I know this is not really :hunting", but this is the thread that gets most traffic...sorry about that.

Enjoy!

I have spent 45+ years in the north woods... And I have called predators for 30+ years... I have called in fox, coyotes, coons, lynx, martin, fisher, wolves and black bears... I have only ever even seen ONE wolverine in the wild... They have huge ranges, are primarily nocturnal and and very alert critters... Would like to see them more... So thanks for the pics... Seeing the camera results must have felt like a successful hunt. Cool.

So I went back to the kill site yesterday. This guy "chit" all over where I was walking around the other day. I was thinking of doing the same to "show him", but chose not too...hehe.

I set up the trail cam again, and he returned again. He no doubt has his little routine.

I think he is starting to get annoyed at me, so after today, I will leave him alone. Guess he don't like intruders in his lunch room...hehe. I have attached a couple more pics...Enjoy

Pretty impressive when you consider they're a weasel.

Hmmmm. They are all alive in my photos..... ;)
The strength of those critters is truly amazing. We had a pregnant female 'bench press' open the ~200lb lid on a trap to get out. Marten are dumb as a bag of hammers. Fisher are tough and pretty cool. Wolverine are just plain amazing. No mountain too tall, no pitch too steep and no winter too cold. They just roam massive home ranges sniffing out frozen carcasses and gorging themselves... hence their latin name "the glutton".

Could always hunt them with a dog like they do in Norway or Russia. ;)

Otherwise, I am not sure how else one would hunt them without using traps.

Although, I am sure that would be taboo in Canada. :)

ahhh, dialogue among (presumed) rednecks... can you count the F-bombs and 'right-on's? Personally, I don't think I would have shot it... but these guys are trappers and are trying to make some money, so I can't really blame them.
