non restricted acr's?

I've been hearing rumours of non-restricted Bushmaster acrs hitting the shelves this summer; is there any truth behind it?
 
It's been promised - but keep waiting. The US market is ridiculous right now. I doubt custom barrels for export market (a small one) is high on bushmasters priority list right now.

Buy one in restricted format and have Ian make you a custom barrel. It's an awesome platform IMHO.
 
Bushmaster is supposedly going to be putting out some longer barrels for the US market as well. The Canadian stuff is going to piggy back onto that.
 
I was just in reliable gun ... they have some ACR's there right now. They said if i bought one they could send it away have it rebarreled and even cut to 223 wylde then have the status changed to non restricted. Turn off for me was the extra $800-$1000.

They said with the new barrel they are far more accurate on the plus side.
 
Could you give a gunsmith the 4-5K that it would cost for the firearm and re barrel, they purchase the restricted version and then they transfer it to you after the conversion? I have my RPAL but this question is for those who only do non restricted

Anyway, here is the detail on the Parts you are looking for.

The Parts in question is either a Barrel assembly or a caliber conversion.
Both of them need to have a min length of 18.5’’.

There will be two version available from Bushmaster ( one in 5.56 and one in 6.8SPC).
Those were supposed to be released prior but due to several production restraint and the current situation in the US, those won’t be produce this year.

Until further notice, both Sku’s should be launch next year.
We have been burn in the past announcing those high demand product but the current production schedule is changing so often that we could not even confirm when or if it will really be launch next year.

Be sure that we will do a lot of promotion when those will be available.
There is a big list of people asking for those so we won’t miss the business opportunities.

As if there is any other non-restricted barrel available in the country.
Yes there is some but those are not factory OEM parts and the use of those barrel will void your warranty.

The Rifle length (18.5’’) barrel uses its own dedicated gas system and everything you will find on the market will use regular carbine length.
They will usually use the Parts you have on your factory barrel and simply install them on a longer barrel.
This will definitely affect the wear and reliability of the platform.

I've held the Bushmaster and I can tell you it feels cheap. The location of the charging handle also could easily cause your hand to scrape on the picatinny rail. Overall it just felt cheap to me, it really did. The Robinson on the other hand feels sturdy and well built. The charging handle is also a lot lower down and seems to be in a much better position. I'd take the Robinson any day.

The ACR destroys the XCR in almost every way. If the charging handle makes you scrape your hand on the rail- you're doing it wrong.

Granted it doesn't FEEL as high quality as say, as Swiss Arms - But it's actually a pretty innovative platform IMHO. It's smoother shooting than any AR, and the bolt release and mag release are faaar superior to the AR platform for a lefty like me.
 
I wish one of the local stores carried the ACR, can't buy it without handling it first. It's like buying a car without the test drive. Would definitely get it made into a non restricted though.

"Feels cheap" is never something I have heard used to describe the ACR. Mine feels solid and extremely well designed and built. I have never scraped my hand operating the charging handle from any position. The only complaint about the charging handle I have is that if you place an Eotech too far forward, you can bump your fingers into it. If the sight is placed in the appropriate location, its a non issue. Mine is placed far enough forward to mount a magnifier as well as a Troy BUIS and it's still far enough back to not interfere with the charging handle.

The ACR is not perfect (its expensive, and ambi-safety can rub your hand, you can't swap the grip, there is a lack of support from Bushmaster, etc), but it sure doesn't feel cheap that's for sure.
