Just starting reloading 9mm using Lee Pro Auto disk. I am using Unique powder 124 xtp bullet. Base on the chart from Lee, it calls for starting grains of 5.1, 0.56cc, which auto disk at. 53. After many try of auto disk, the powder I got from the disk weight at 4.1 grains, so I manually using the 0.5cc power measure, and the powder weights 4.3 grains. No sure if the chart is wrong or both of my scale are off. The .56cc unique powder weight is under starting 5.1 grains stated on the chart.

Any help would be appreciated? What is ur book says the powder weight for unique powder, 124xtp bullet for 9mm?

Some may disagree, but I would suggest getting the micrometer setup for your auto-disk instead of the actual disks. Under 4.0gr. of flake-type powder, the micrometer may throw some low loads, but above 4.0gr. it's fine. Dial in your weight and go.
The fact that you're using Unique maybe why you're getting a low throw with the discs, but I'm not sure on that one. Using the dippers kind of defeats the purpose of running a progressive press, doesn't it?

My Lee book shows the .53 auto disk as throwing 4.9 grains. It lists the .57 auto disk as throwing 5.2 grains. Now, I'm sure a lot of guys will agree, these auto disks always throw a lighter charge, for the most part, perhaps .1-.3 grains depending on the powder. Also, if you don't have the one die set correctly, (powder thru die/powder holder), it won't drop your charge completely. Hard to explain, maybe someone with a better gift of explaining will show up.

My book also shows 4.8 min-4.8 max for Unique and a 124 grain jacketed bullet.

I've found that different powders measure different. Keep trying different settings untill you get your desired charge. I haven't found the posted measures provided with the auto disk to be accurate.. PS buy a digital scale so that you can check your charges often with ease. I also have had great difficulty getting a consistant charge using Unique powder with the perfect powder measure.

What thing said. Use it as a guide and starting point. That's what I did. I actually find that the disks throw 800X the best for my 10mm loads. Better consistency than any other powder throw I own.

I use the chart as a starting point and just move up/down in disk size as necessary until I find what works.

Autodisk is a great tool, but the charts are just a starting point I found. Same as thing, use a good electronic scale and play with disks and powder until you get what you need. The key is to be able to drop a consistent and predictable load. I've built my own cheat sheet at the bench for each powder and MY set of disks. If you replace a disk, start over to be safe. If you expand and double your disks, label the sets as "A" and "B", they may not drop the same.....

It's a good idea to recheck with new lots of powder too. Only takes a few seconds to stay safe.

I use the auto disk as well, but have found that it is important to weigh your charges. Don't rely on the chart. I bought a digital scale from Budget Shooter, and it has been a great tool.

the weight of the charge will vary with the amount of agitation the measure is subjected to IMO.
I believe its due to the hopper hole being smaller than the disc most of the time.
Another reason a Lee rhythm is needed.
weight a charge.
throw another but tap on the hopper this time.
It didn't weigh the same did it?
I've also found some powders meter better than others- I haven't played with Unique so...
YMMV
