Needless to say I'll be lurking around here a lot in the coming weeks, trying to figure out what my first pistol will be! I won't bother posting too many questions until I learn as much as I can on this forum. Seems there are 10,000 new posts on this site every time I log in!!

Right now trying to decide b/w a revolver and something more like a 1911 or along those lines. Seems anything I want is almost impossible to find in stock anywhere. Anyway thanks for reading! Pumped for the first handgun!

Just have to search man. they are out and about. or go to your fav dealer and wait. don't count out the glock or SW M&P

My bros have a Springfield XDm, Sig P226 X5, and some kind of AR type of gun so I was hoping to bring something a little different to the range. Glocks are sweet though.

Right on man, good move! Everyone should have an rpal even if they don't intend to use it. I just bought a Glock 17 as my first restricted last week, and I think another one soon. It only makes your addition worse!

Hah I have tried to go to the gun shops to do just that. Before they hand me a pistol they ask for my RPAL and I slink out of the store with my tail down. Rules are rules I guess...

Congrats!! I am in the same boat just sent mine away on the weekend. :) I know what my first one will be though I've preordered a Sig 226 :D

Hahahaha ive done that exact same thing when i was waiting for my restricted!

funny, not sure why some shops won't let you handle without a Rpal. Looking doesn't require a pal, and your handling under the supervision of someone who DOES have a pal. Heck, in our store you can even purchase, and we'll hold the handgun in stock with your name on it till your Rpal shows up....but it's a long way from Saskatchewan to Ontario. I didn't know the "must have" virus had spread that far, i was hoping it was only an Ontario and Qubec thing

That said, grab a GSG, any model, inexpensive to shoot, fun and when you spring for a full caliber 1911 you'll be familiar

Only Canadian Tire has asked for my licence before handling their wares. You should try telling them you're waiting for it to come in and you're going to buy from them when it does. Also, congrats on doing your RPAL and buy a 9mm so you can afford to shoot enough to get better. Then buy the 1911 and a big revolver.

Good advice, thanks! Maybe I'll try that next time I get the chance to ogle the wares.
