I'm looking to bed a few rifles in the near future and Devcon Steel seems to be the bedding compound of choice for many. Where are most people sourcing their Devcon Steel from? The only place that I've been able to come up with is Acklands-Grainger, and its about $85 for a 1lb tub. I would like to buy it from somewhere here in Saskatoon, but will order some online if necessary.

THanks for the replies. I will check out Motion Canada for sure. I'm not in a huge hurry so I don't mind waiting if they have to order it. At half the price of Acklands seems like a better deal.
 
I see that Devcon has a "Plastic steel putty" as well as a "stainless steel putty". Would I be better off to get the stainless? Has anyone had any issues with their bedding job rusting/oxidizing??
 
I'm using the Devcon aluminium putty, seems to be working great. I'm not sure if there is an advantage to steel, stainless or aluminium putty....haven't heard any thing negative about using any devcon product.
 
I have used Devcon plastic and F.Havn't tried the stainless yet.
Never had any problem with either.
Loctite steel putty is very good too.
 
I buy it at Gregg's distributors. If you say it's a cash sale threw Trican well service should cost you around $45. Might want to look into the aluminum version then you get a fair bit more because its sold by weight. Plus it's just lighter in general depending on what your aiming to do.
 
Century Vallen is the best price in Saskatoon. FYI they have moved - they are still on Faithful but are now north of 51 St., unlike the old address which google still shows (south of 51 St).
 
I just bought mine 4 days ago at AG in Kingston and I paid $80 all in. Seems expensive, but after doing my first bedding job last night and seeing how much I needed, I will likely get another 4 bedding jobs out of it. So a total of 5 bedding jobs for $80 isn't bad at all.

I see some guys using JB Weld, the last time I bought that it was about $20 taxes in and I think by looking at the tubes you would only get one rifle done. So in the end I think Devcon is a little less expensive.

I used the Plastic Steel Putty, very nice to work with. And I used Minwax Finishing Floor Paste (floor wax) for a release agent, worked great too.
 
well I ended up picking up a 1lb of plastic steel putty at Gregg's Distributers here in Saskatoon. I was able to get a fairly good price on it due to some relations that often deal with Gregg's. Their retail price on 1lb is $68 plus taxes. I paid less than that due to said deal. I also picked up some Kiwi shoe polish, as that seems to be a popular release agent.

KIWI Shoe polish in Neutral colour....I had a very frustrating time trying to find Paste floor wax...seems like no one waxed floors any more.
 
you want crazy deals at acklands? Say you are a Suncor employee (I know this because I am one and they have never asked to see my ID for a purchase). Im talking 50% or more off high end stuff like snowblowers, generators etc, depends on the specific item the deal you get.
